Tired and made big mistake!

I put the whole can of milk in.. the 12oz  one... instead of only 5...do you suppose that it will ever set up? Maybe I will bake it forever!  Oh dear. We will have soup for pie this year. &n

I put the whole can of milk in.. the 12oz one... instead of only 5...do you suppose that it will ever set up? Maybe I will bake it forever! Oh dear. We will have soup for pie this year. Better than the one I did with the pure pumpkin and thought I had the pre-mixed... No spices in it. Lesson should have been learned long ago. (I've been married for 45 years!

Hi Anne,If you were baking the Libby's recipe it calls for 1 can of evaporated milk for one pie,it will bake just fine.I wish I would have seen your post earlier.

Sorry to hear you're tired Anne. If it doesn't set, you could always take the pumpkin out of the pie shell and mix with cooked rice. Add some raisins and bake for about 25 minutes. Pumpkin rice bake is always a good dessert.

NOT TIRED BUT BAFFLED!!!

What a beautiful Thanksgiving morning! My husbands winter squash pies turned out great. A neighbor called and said to join other neighbors for a brunch. I thought of a quick gift and no brainer.....I can use my new mint/dark chocolate chips to make bark! The pies had been left in the oven for over an hour. I knew the oven was cool. I set the oven for 325 degrees F. I followed the recipe .....but 10 min later the chips had not changed....no shine...no glaze.....20 min later....they started to separate but there was no way they were ready to be swirled!!! What a waste!!!! The mint never melted, the dark burnt and we took a candle to my hostess.

These are not cheap! I know am doubting the white chocolate and may take the rest of the mint and other flavored ones back!!! I had high hopes!

Yikes mj H -- that sounds just awful! I'm sorry this happened to you anytime but especially on such a wonderful day.
I love the Nestles Dark Chocolate morsels. I can't remember trying to melt any but I'll be doing that VERY soon to make candy. I make a lot of bark too. I'll be 'reporting' back here as soon as I try.

I always melt my chips in the microwave. It only takes a minute or so and I've never had a problem.

I'm also betting the pie came out just fine. The recipe I use for pumpkin pie was my mother's and it is different from the normal recipes. It calls for separating the eggs, beating the whites and folding them into the filling before putting it into the crust. It also calls for 3 cups of milk, but over the years I've cut it to 2 cups because there was always too much filling even for my deep pie plate I always use for pumpkin. The finished pie is fluffy, not firm and slick like most pumpkin pies. We love it.
