I set 2 sticks of butter out yesterday to soften up for baking...And its so cold in my kitchen it hasn't softened up any. Other than heating the kitchen, which is not an option because my heater won't heat that far, how do I get it soft enough to cream w/o melting it?
Hi Mary K.,I just let mine set out a while then beat it in my mixer until it softens.Try setting it out in the warmest room in the house. If you have a light in your oven try setting it in there with the light on that will radiate a little heat, just watch it until it has softened to your liking.
Thanks for the great ideas everyone...I tried the 2 birds with 1 stone method and now have a nice clean microwave. That worked great for the softening problem. I came up with another way on my own that works pretty good. I put some dried beans in the bottom of my crockpot, set it at low and placed the sticks on top of the beans. It took about 15 mins to get it soft but not too soft. Didn't want to put the sticks directly on the bottom of the crockpot...I was afraid it would melt!
