Size of packaging, more information

There have been some comments posted about baking packages being down-sized. Here's something I just read online about cake  mixes that I found interesting, and a little more comforting.

     "Several mainstream cake-mix brands have downsized their boxes. We looked into it and found out that the new packages make pretty much the same amount of cake as they did before. The cake formulas have just changed a bit, and now the mixes weigh less."

why is it "my packaging" starts looking older and "my packaging" weighs more every year?
Ok serious now...
This is interesting I wonder what is being done to make a product that weighs less but still gives the same size final product?  Are we adding more liquid, eggs or oil.  I could understand if some of the hydrogenated oils are removed thus making us add more oil or eggs to make up for it.

also on-line is a really big place and we all know that we can find most any "facts" that someone wants us to see

Just about ALL packages are getting smaller....for instance....Original Ritz Crackers.  The packages get smaller, and the price gets bigger.  I wonder what else will downsize?

B.C. and D.H. both changed the size of the boxes. If you had a recipe
that used the cake mix in (example: cookies or Italian love cake)
before they changed it and you make it again after the change it does
not come out right. It is either lower in the pan and the texture is not
the same. Some also said that the taste was really off. D.H. said they
didn't change the formula, just less in the box. D.H. has about 3 or 4
cake mixes that are still 18.25 oz. The end result is that we are
paying more and getting less.

Thanks for the info Verlee.  I haven't made a cake mix in a while so I really didn't notice.  Will be interesting to see if the new ones compare.  It is frustrating to buy things for years and all of a sudden the size has changed.  That makes for some really "changed" recipes.
