I am planning to make a bunch of lemon bars for our school bake sale coming up this weekend.
I was told to package each bar individually.
I'm afraid that ALL of the powdered sugar topping is going to fall off in to the baggie/wrap.
Does anyone know a way to make the powdered sugar topping stay ON the lemon bars?

I usually have the same problem. I do sometimes use this glaze, I add it just before serving.  The only other way to prevent the sugar from melting is to use King Arthurs non melting powdered sugar, but it is a little pricey and hard to find.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice or more until you reach the right consistency

I know so little about wrapping for selling ....... but, maybe if you wrapped each bar in plastic (Saran) wrap instead of putting it in a baggie?

Hi Julie, and welcome to VBB.

I usually dust the lemon bars while they are still slightly warm so some of the sugar melts.  It seems to hold what doesn't melt on the bars.  Or you could try the glaze that Kelly suggested.  Good luck with the bake sale.

H. M has your solution.  If you dust the bars with the powdered sugar while they are still warm the powdered sugar will melt a bit onto the bar.  I would dust again once they are cooled.  The powdered sugar will then stick to the previously applied sugar.
I really would not worry much about it...that is one of the things people expect when you get a bar dusted with powdered sugar.

Ditto what Nikki said. I always dust them twice, once while warm and once after cutting. Sometimes I forget to add the powdered sugar, and no one seems to notice!!

I have found that the sugar does melt into the desert. Our group doesn't do any cakes or cookies that can melt because it seems to turn off the buyers.
