Do any of you use a kitchen food scale?
Learn the baker basics
I went to a 1 hour free cooking demonstration at our Williams-Sonoma store and the chef recommended that we use a kitchen scale to weigh all ingredients for accuracy. Do any of you bakers use a scale?

I am amazed at the amount of VBB's that use food scales. I never had the need or thought about using one. Another lesson learned.

I have a really nice one from Pampered Chef - love it! Tucks away nicely in the cupboard when not in use!

Yes I use a food scale.  I weigh out a lot of different food items.  It's not a fancy one but it works!

I use my kitchen scale, particularly when I've bought something in bulk and want to break it down into manageable amounts.  It comes in hand, too, if you are trying to follow a diet based on weighed portions of meats and/or vegetables.

I guess using a scale would solve the problem of measuring cups not all being the same.  Occasionally I do use a scale.

judy about the measuring cups not being the same------------------

several yrs ago i bought several sets of the dollar store cups to use in cannisters for measuring    and i quickly found they were not reliable------------i went back to using my tupperware nested cups because they are accurate as are most of the more reliable brands-----ditto ----------for the measuring spoons

also in case everyone already doesn't already know this

the nested cups and spoons that you can actually scrape the top on should always be used when measuring dry ingredients-------------

the glass (or other) cups that measure by ounces should only be used for liquids-------------the ounces marked on these cups are meant for liquid ounces only------------when you are baking it can make a difference

Nellie, it sounds like you have the same type scale I have, or I have the same type you have...
I also keep it in the box.  It keeps it clean and I think the box protects it from getting jostled.
I think I will have to check the battery it uses and make sure I have one on hand.

I checked my scale an all over the box it says.."batteries included"...but no mention as to what size batteries.  So I checked and it is 2 AAA batteries and I have plenty of them around.  Good thing as I do not have 9Volt but I have to get some my scale uses them as does the garage door opener.
I just taped 2AAA batteries to the underside of the inner cardboard container the scale is set in.  That way I will have them when needed.

because i am kind of----- 'known'-------by my family as keeping a supply of batteries the grands are constantly stopping by to pick up 2 or 3 for some item---------------thankfully now most of their things do not require the kind of batteries i keep

I never felt the use of a kitchen scale, cooking is somehow connected to my heart and i don't think we need to measure anything perfectly before adding it. I love the way i cook and i cook well Cool
