Most of my canned goods are stored inverted. I will admit not an easy way to read the labels but the lids stay dust free that way.

Expanding on what Maxine said....If you stuff your turkey remove the stuffing when you take it out of the oven.  this will allow the turkey to cool properly and keep the stuffing in a safe temperature zone.

A comment about Maryann's No Kids in the kitchen, I think if they are supervised and are old enough to help they are less apt to get hurt than if they are just under foot.  so give them a task appropriate to their capabilities.

GRANA here; defrost turkey  or other  meats in microwave oven (turned off ) or refrigerator on a drip proof tray to  keep  contaminating messy juices away from other food itemsand eliminating having to clean up all shelves below the  e thawing meat.

GRANA here;
 do not  stuff turkey unttil immediately   before roasting it; instead make sauffing & stor separately in refrigerator; stuff turkey and as soon as possible place in a pre-heated oven , according to your serving schedule

I do wipe the lids down before I put them away. I do this when I put the new cans behind the older ones.
I used to open the bottom of the cans but now with the cannning process the bottom of the cans have a rounded bottom and you can't open them.
