Hi!! Gals and Guys.
I'm kinda new to this stuff. My name is Phil, and I'm really pretty new to this baking game. I've retired and found some spare time and the bakery has always been a deep mystery to me. Love to eat the stuff, don't have a clue on how to put it all together.
    So I'll start with the first of many questions.When I buy my chocolate morsels and nuts in bulk, what is the bestmethod for long term storage???

Freezer is the best way to store both nuts and chocolate.  It does 2 things.
1. Keeps ;them fresh a bit longer.
2. It is much more difficult to eat frozen chocolate and nuts.  That's not to say it is impossible but it will keep you from eating most of the stock pile before you start baking.

All kidding aside the nuts will last about 6 months in the freezer the chocolate a bit longer.  Nuts with a high fat content do not last long in storage at room temperature.  I just keep all nuts in the refrigerator or the freezer.

i keep mine in the freezer in containers or freezer bags      mostly i add them frozen right into the recipe

WELCOME to vbb;  not  too much to add;  FREEZE OR REFRIGERATE  nuts & morsels, in  well sealed  bags to keep them  from spoiling or being consumed by "somebody"There is a  " somebody "  in every household!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YellWink
 One more thing, there is " BEST BY " date on  MORSELS packages, use up or freeze before that date!...morsels  may get a white ash appearance when frozen.I've  been told " just use them , as usual"Smile. 
 Don't let your baking inexperience, stop you from getting in there& " giving it your best effort; we were all novices at one time; even theVERY BEST BAKERS  among us; pretty soon you will be one [ A VBB]too 
There is nothing like the sense of satisfaction  &  pride  you  get  when you taste  your r first homemade cookie, still warm from the ovenSmileCool

Welcome, Phil. One more thing to add regarding the chocolate, it sometimes will 'separate', especially if kept at room temperature for a good deal of time. The outside gets a whitish look to it. There's nothing wrong with this and the chocolate is okay to use. This is another good reason to keep your chocolate refrigerated!

As with most of the other VBB I would say the freezer. You do know that if chocolate gets some white (bloom) that it is still good and usable.

Welcome! Hope you enjoy the site as much as I do!  As for the chocolate, I too freeze them - works great and they last a long time (if I can keep the hubby from snacking on them)!

Hi Philip and welcome.  You'll find we are a friendly bunch lol.  Any questions you have can usually be answered by somebody here or referred to a different source.

I also keep my chocolate and nuts in the freezer or fridge.  Started doing that when some of the nuts I had in the pantry went rancid.
