I found this in an old cook book: 2 Tabs.corn starch,2 Tabs.cream of tartar, 1 Tabs.baking soda.If you want more just mix 2 parts cornstarch,2 parts cream of tartar and 1 part baking soda.

I would never have considered making my own baking powder.  But you could be sure it was fresh that way.

Wow.  I never knew you could make baking powder.  I thought it was one of those "staples" that you just bought and couldn't make.

Gale, again you never cease to amaze me.  Great info. Thanks this will be written in my favorite taped together cookbook under the heading "emergency substitutions". I wonder why it isn't there already?
