Nancy I have a metal two piece lemon/lime press (mine too is ANCIENT).  It has a small spout to pour and I pour the juice into my measuring cup.  After the lime is juiced I use my microplane to obtain the zest.  It can be tedious but that wonderful lime flavor is SO WORTH IT!  Awe.......... the delicious fresh lime smell.............

I've been able to find some really good cooking gadgets at my local flea market for a fraction of the cost when buying retail.

I just went to www.cutleryandmore.com/ " /> http://www.cutleryandmore.com   and bought a microplane.   I will hold each of you responsible if I don't like it!

I love my microplane grater.  It doesn't have a handle and lives in a plastic sleeve in the draw.  It is so much easier to clean than the box grater.  My juiced is a plastic reamer that sits on top of a plastic container so the juice collects in it. The pulp and seeds stay in the holes around the reamer.  I got it free with something and it works great.  I also got the microplane grater free with something.  It is so nice and sharp.

I also  use a microplaner.  In fact I have several sizes of microplanes.  However, I think i received all of them as gifts.  I must admit that they are super duper.  I love them.  As for juicing I use a plain old juicer that fits over a cup of any size.  It seems to work fine.

My new microplane grater arrived today ......... with shipping from Cutlery and More the little thing cost a fortune.   I can't wait to use it the first time.
I think this might be an excuse to buy more limes and make those great cookies!!

Nancy, I sure hope you like your microplane zester as much as I do. I find I'm adding more zest to recipes because this little gadget makes it so much easier!

H. M. ..... don't you hate things that can't be washed in the dishwasher?  I can't think of anything that I own that won't go in that miraculous machine.   Some of my baking racks say they need hand washing but I just ignore it.
Maybe you should start a thread about dishwashing vs hand washing?

Nancy for the juicer look in a local "ethnic" market if you have one near by.  Often the juicers there are a bit less expensive than they are in some of the larger stores.
I have seen 2 a yellow one intended for lemons and a green one intended for limes.  (The yellow one is a bit larger than the green one.)

Nikki -- the largest (and only) ethnic market in this entire area is the large Walmart store in a nearby town ............ and that town has a grocery store that carries a few ethnic items for very high prices.  I tend to shop ebay.

You can probably get a juicer in the kitchen section of your local hardware store.  I remember my mother's juicer.  It was green glass and had a handle on it like an old fashioned "Jack Be Nimble" candlestick.  The juice collected around the reamer.  One had to strain the juice through a sieve to get the seeds and pulp out.  With the 2 piece ones the juice goes through the holes around the reamer and collects in the bottom, leaving the seeds and pulp over the holes.

Judy - there's a big Ace hardware in a neighboring town.  Isn't it odd that I haven't been in it for 16-18 years.  I frequent Walmart, Lowe's and that fancy super market.
Right now I have 3 nice limes waiting for me in the 'fridge but no time for more baking today or tomorrow.  I am thinking of going ahead to make the grated lime peel and the juice and freezing it.   Any opinions about freezing juice and peel?

I think the juice looses potency when frozen.
Zest should be alright frozen but I would mix it with a bit of sugar.  Then freeze the sugar and zest together.  Just add it into the recipe when you go to use it.

Thank you Nikki -- I appreciate your advice so very much.   But if the juice loses potency I sure won't grate the zest ~sigh~.
I'm so eager to try my new grater.
