Hi there!

I love oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, but I'm in a pinch for time...does anyone know if you can add oatmeal to store-bought cookie dough? If so, do you need to do anything else to it ie: add more liquid, etc?

Thanks for the advice!

Very interesting idea!!  I never thought of doing that.  I can not imagine why it wouldn't work.  I think the only thing that you might need to add would be a bit of water or milk to loosen the dough.  Maybe you wouldn't even need to do that, I would bring the refrigerated dough to room temperature and put it in your mixer bowl and give it a quick mix, add the oatmeal and mix just enough to mix in the oatmeal.
I think most oatmeal recipes use much less flour than the chocolate chip cookie recipe so you probably wouldn't be able to add more than 1 Cup of oatmeal but that should still taste pretty darn good.

What's to lose try it and let us know how they turned out.
Worse case, the birds in your yard will have a feast! best case, you have found an easy way to add a bit of fiber and whole grain to a chocolate chip cookie.

The oatmeal wouldn't be in the cookie, but what about taking the cookie dough and rolling it into balls with oatmeal on the outside, kind of like you do when you roll the cookies in sugar before baking?

My wife usually bakes the cookies in our house but yes you can. We usually buy a whole wheat plain cookie dough and add whatever we want, we meaning wife usually get me to help with cookie projects, especially when there is some scrape, chop and/or peal involved.

I just had a thought.  Instead of using refrigerated cookie dough, what about the mixes and either adding the oatmeal to the chocolate chip cookie mix or combining 2 mixes (chocolate chip cookie and oatmeal cookie and add the ingredients listed on each of the mixes)?

Me too! Quite often we try to cook healthy and that is just what some of these foods taste like. I am not a bird!

If you buy the oatmeal cookie dough, you can add the chips to it.  (I would just press a few chips in each cookie)

If you buy the cho. chip dough, take a little of the dough & dip in a little oatmeal & mix it in & bake a few this way to see if too dry.

I would take the cookie dough and then make a ball and roll it in the oatmeal.  This should work.

I'd give it a try.  As someone stated above, let it come to room temperature, not add too much oatmeal maybe a cup if it seems dry after mixing add a bit or margarine, butter or perhaps oil.  I add more chips without a problem but they don't take away moisture as oatmeal would.
