Brown Sugar??? Well, I'll be.........
Learn the baker basics
I almost always buy C&H brand dark brown sugar - sometimes a bag of Great Value, Wal Mart's brand, to mix with C&H. This morning I was in a local store, Schnucks, and bought a bag of theirs.

I use a terra-cotta clay bear that is made just for keeping your brown sugar soft.  You just soak the bear (I also have a house shaped one also)  in water for 15 minutes or so , dry it off and place it in your brown sugar container.
