Hello,

I made some protein bars about 3 days ago, i went to eat one today and they had gone mouldy.

The texture of the bars was quite greasy/wet so I assume that is why they went bad? I had them in a air tight container..

The ingredients were

Whey Protein
Milk
Egg whites
Peanut Butter
Honey
Cinnamon
Oats
Bananas

Any ideas of what would be causing the mould? I would preferebly like to be able to keep these out of the fridge/freezer.

Would putting them in the freezer or fridge keep them from going mouldy for longer?

Cheers

Hi Sam, and welcome to the VBB site! With the milk, egg whites, pb and bananas, there's a lot of moisture in your bars, and that would cause them to mold. And if you live in a humid climate, this would also contribute to the mold. Storing them in the refrigerator would help keep them fresh longer.

Storing cakes, pies homemade goodies near heat causes mold.If your  kitchen gets hot or retains heat this also causes un-expected problems.Storing in the refrigerator keeps it safer/fresher.
