Angela: You had asked for a recipe for a pastry that had chocolate and some other ingredients and was deep fried. I had given a recipe for canoli; but I'm wondering if possibly this is the recipe you were looking for. Didn't know how to bring it to your attention other than doing it this way.I made a recipe like this with my grandmother when I was a little girl. Never got her recipe. However years ago I purchased the Ellis Island Immigrant Cookbook and it had the recipe in it. I will type it for you. Let me know if this is what you are looking for.RAVIOLI DULCI (SWEET RAVIOLIS)Dough1 3/4 cups unbleached flour2 tablespoons water2 tablespoons dry white wine1 tablespoon olive oil 2 egg yolksMix all together, forming a ball and place under a covered bowl for l/2 hour, then roll out thin and using a round cutter (my grandmother and I used a glass), cut out circular discs.Filling8 chestnuts boiled and peeledl/4 cup almonds2 tablespoons honey1 square melted, unsweetened chocolate1 tablespoon each grated lemon rind and orange rind2 tablespoons candied citronl/2 teaspoon each, nutmeg, cinnamon, vanillaMix thoroughly in food processor (we did not use a food processor. they were not around then.)Fill the center of the circular disc with a full teaspoon of filling mixture. Fold side to other side in a half moon shape and press sides together to seal. Fry in very hot oil, drain ontowels. After cooling sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. Enjoy with strong coffee, either demitasse or expresso.I hope this helps. I hope you see this. I was afraid that if I put it with your original question, that you might not go back to it and not see it.Hope no one gets offended that I did it this way.
Marie, except for the citron this sounds absolutely fabulous. I will print this out and add it to my collection. If you are so inclined... Click on the upper right corner and go to "Recipe Box". When you get there click on "Add a recipe". Type in the recipe and it will be there for me when I misplace the paper this one will be printed out on. I say misplaced because things don't get lost forever they just are misplaced!Thank you for the recipe not much wrong with any type of fried dough! It is amazing how fried dough is in almost every cuisine.
