I got lucky today.  A friend came to visit and brought Chicken soup.  Also she brought a Turkey meat loaf that I will make for tomorrow.  Aren't friends wonderful?!  All I have to do is figure out what vegetable I will make, I have a few sweet potatoes that I could bake and some green beans would round out the meal.  And give me some leftovers for meatloaf sandwiches.

In Response to Re: WHAT'S FOR DINNER TONIGHT? : Hi Nellie,My brother makes his dumplings like that pushing them through a plastic bag with the end snipped off.I have a dumpling maker.I don't havea recipe for my dumplings as most of the things that I make that are Eastern European. They  are just from memory the way I was taught by my mom.I take flour ,a little salt,a couple of eggs, melted butter and water and make a sticky dough in my kitchen aid mixer. This I put into my dumpling maker and the dough is pushed through into boiling salted water.I cook them until they float to the top and take them out and continue until all the dough is cooked. These dumplings are more of a noodle than American style dumplings. In Hungarian these are called Nokedli.

gale,
i like those dumplings too  but i don't think i would ever try to make them
the last few years my mom just used a pkg of bis-kits    i usually use bisquick
we drop the dumplings where they will float and cook 10 mins and cover for 10 mins more------------no stirring allowed or they will sink  and melt into the broth

and there will be no experiments with dumplings today ---so glad i hadn't put the breasts on

my son called and told me my g.s. had a haircut appt at 3  and 5 mins later  the g.s. called and said that the school had no lights and they were dismissing school at 10:15 (the MAGIC hour for state per diem)
so son had appt changed to 10:30 and my g.s. also  'needed'  to go to academy for some lures and there is a new restaurant in front of academy           a   logan's roadhouse
it was kind of $$ for me  mostly steak menu            but when i asked about a special she showed me a flip-over thing on the the table          where two could eat for 14.99        one of the choices was a 6 oz sirloin so we both had that  he had 2X fries  and i had a loaded baked potato for 99 cents more and a very good salad  w/ his drink our bill was 19.11 not bad
but they had him at the delivery of a basket of very good hot rolls and butter  and brought more
he LOVES hot rolls    he ate 6 before we left

Buy one burger, get one free for tonight.  The hospital where I volunteer is having Christmas luncheon for the volunteers and employees.  This is always a good meal: yes, it is hospital food but this hospital food is exceptional!  Hubby is having a fasting blood test done this morning, so he will eat brunch instead of breakfast.  Soooo, off to the burger bargain for tonight's dinner if either of us are hungry!

that reminds me when in 2009 my sister and i took another sister to a hospital in ft worth tx (over 250 miles)            for hip replacement surgery  and we stayed in a motel for 3 days until they let us take her back to the nursing home (my sister is the r.n. director of the nursing home, so she was allowed to travel w/ us)              we went down to the cafeteria during her surgery         and found very good food   and when we were trying to pay  the cashier informed us that if we got drinks and desert we would get a special meal deal  so we did     and it was less than 12.00 for both meals    and i had prime rib
so we had lunch and early dinner there on fri and sat  but they only had sandwiches and self-serve things on sunday

I was starving when I got home from church school so I made a can of tomato soup and a grilled ham and cheese sandwich.  Dinner?  I don't have a clue.

my dumplings worked out fine in the bag      it was easy to mix them in the bag                but i lost about 1/3 of the dough because it was stuck on the bag        and i couldn't squeeze it around very well i used a quart size bag
maybe a larger bag would make it easier              i'm gonna be looking for some kind of something to use

I was so hungry I actually made a good (tasting) meal ...... I had a fried ham steak, hash brown potatoes, toast and eggs.  Not exactly healthy but, gee, it was good.

We are planning on having french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon for dinner tonight.  I'm so anxious for it I'd rather make it for lunch but will wait for dinner.  One of my sons is busy making 14 different types of Christmas cookies, so he said he'd give us a sampling of some of them for our dessert tonight.  Isn't that nice?  He has taken over the Christmas baking and I do the Christmas candy.  Not a bad deal, in my opinion.

French toast!!  I haven't had 'real' french toast in years and it sounds so good.   Tonight I'll have french toast and bacon.
