mikki g...thanks for the reminder about S..O..S. Have not made that in a long time. I do recall that using the dried chipped beef resulted in a dinner that would wake me several times during the night to get a glass of water. Then for every glass of water ya gotta get up to "get rid of the glass of water". I will have to make this but will get some "real" beef to make it with. And Bakery is right ya have to mix the peas in with the white sauce. I also recall a dish my Grandma used to do that I loved so much, "Finnan Haddie", smoked haddock and she made it in milk that was then turned into a white sauce. Again lots of salt but oh so good. I don't think I have seen smoked haddock in a very long time. I bet she got the "recipe" because of my Grandpa, he was from Scotland.

read the jar for directions to soak or rinse most of the salt off the dried beef because it is really better for the s.o.s.
