Gale -- thank you! I had not decided what to fix for dinner. Chili is a great idea..... I just pulled a bag out of my freezer.
(I make big batches, pour one serving into a zip lock bag, remove as much air a possible then flatten out the bag. Makes for easy freezing and thawing)

That is a good idea Nancy to freeze the chili the way you do.I made homemade spaghetti sauce with some pork neck bones and wanted to send some for my brother and that's how I packed his sauce ,I knew I wouldn't see him until this weekend.The smaller portions would even be better for him because he is by himself.His one friend is a Chef and he asked for some too,so I feel kind of flattered,that he wants some of my sauce.

Hotdogs on buns w/ sauerkraut
baked beans
potato knish (onion & black pepper seasoned potatoes in a thin flaky crust
pickled beetsw/ sweet onion slices Hot tea
raspberry triangles (1/2 a raspberry square)

Tonight I warmed up some Chile Con Carne, put it over a potato and then sprinkled with shredded cheddar cheese. I wish I had some sour cream to put on top! Well, less calories!!

Susan,I have a few containers of sour cream,too bad you're not next door.We are having leftover chili tonight and you gave me an idea for our dinner tonight.I have to go to the store today,I'll get some potatoes.

That would have been nice, I love sour cream...it can be used for so many things!

Tonight we are going to heat up the grill and make Johnsonville cheddar sausage, along with tater tots. I am thinking of making a hugh pot of homemade Chicken Corn Noodle soup for tomorrow w/fresh Italian bread! Soup is good for the soul!

Gale, try using some Greek Style yogurt in place of sour cream. I get the "0" Fat Greek Style the brand is Fagee, (pronounced Fa-yeh) it is great. I use it in cooking a lot love it in a smoothie and in salads and with some granola and fruit for almost any meal.

Well for diner tonight making Turkey soup. Took the carcass and wings and legs from the freezer yesterday and they spent 30 minutes in my pressure cooker. De fatted the broth and I am on my way to the best turkey soup I have had in a long while.

By the way Ann N. Do you gave a good recipe for a Noodle Kuggle. (Not sure of the spelling and the spell check is going nuts! But I am sure you know what I mean.)

I guess things have changed a bit. When I was young I, a Catholic, went to a few Jewish family's homes to prepare meals as they were not allowed. I took the responsibility very seriously but maybe I have the wrong holiday, Probably!.. It's been a long long time

nikki p ; Good guess at spelling; it's kugle( only one "G)..
I have my Grandma's recipe & the family & guests have always said it is "terrifc"

It is the sweet version, making it ideal for a brunch.I serve it hot in cold weather or
cold in hot weather always w/plain non fat yogurt or sour cream spooned generously over the top .
Any leftover kugel, once thoroughly cooled can be wrapped up ( airtight pkg) & frozen for up to a month; just microwave (uncovered) to thaw & heat, serve w/ sour cream or plain yogurt
BTW: ThatGreek yogurt (Fagee) ) is sold around here & I've noticed it's higher in protein than any other sold here OTHER SHOPPERS PRAISE IT .Hubby likes plain yogurt drizzled w/honey ( the way he had it on the island of Cyprus( 1/2 Greek& 1/2 Turkish U.N. controlled, located in the Mediterranean
I cannot locate my noodlekugel recipe in my pc files, right now..I'll have to type it out& get it off to you ASAP; I foundtherecipe for potato kugelifanyone wants that one?
BTW; kugel means ;pudding" ( aka, a casserole made w/eggs)

JOHN; It's not on any particular "holiday" but rather on every Sabbath; ( Friday after sunset & al lday Saturday( tillsunset) that "observant"/strict Jews are not allowed to do any physical labor and must rely on kind non( observant)Jews to help them out....In long ago times, nonJews were hired to do these chores. It's great that you were willing & able to do the good deed of allowing these very religeous people to observe the sabbath ( day of rest) & 7 stil have a mealto eat. In homes where that "luxury" was nt affordable, or a generous non-Jew wasn ot available,a pot roast was put up on Friday early afternoon & cooked slowly overnight.It was called a collent( chunt) & the meat was so tender it melted in your mouth.

gale g ; That is exactly whatI do: I make a large( 2Qt )pot ofchiil[ there is only the 2 of us] pkgit justasyou say( in 2Cup amounts; flatten , pressout extraair& freeze.I use these pkgt o top cookedpasta ( spaghettiorelbowmacaroni,rice or bakedpotatoes & even as a starterfor my chili bean soup ( by adding beef broth,diced tomatoes,extra blsack beans ( pre-cooked & frozen in1/2 cup bags for jutst this purpose) I add extra spices & sometimes kernel corn...It's a tastey easy meal on a cold day In Response to Re: WHAT'S FOR DINNER TONIGHT?:

[Apple] NOODLE KUGEL serves up to 8 people [leftovers,once cooled, fully, may be packed in airtight containers & frozen (up to onemonth) for future use This is a sweet version from my Nana (grandma) She also had a savory spinach versionINGREDIENTS: One # pkg of X-wide egg noodles 2TBS butter OR buttery margarine 2 eggs; well beaten( fatfree egg replacementproduct, OK) ½ # (1cup) cottage cheese 1/4cup sugar or substitute ***¼ cup OJ or apple juice OR ½ cup applesauce ***to keep kugel moist¼ - ½ tsp (ground) cinnamon, to taste¼ cup approximate sugar, to taste 2 apples; cored; & cut into ½” cubes/dice¼ cup raisins DIRECTIONS:Grease a 2 Qt oven proof casserole & set aside Cook noodles, according to pkg, drain well & set aside (overapie plate, o hold extra water& butter drippings). Put spoonfuls of butter on top, and allow the heat to melt the butter Preheat oven to 375’In a large mixing bowl, beat together eggs, cottage cheese, juice (applesauce), cinnamon, sugar & raisinsFold in the drained noodles, melted butter & apple pieces.Pour all of this noodle mixture into your prepared casserole. Level off top surface, dot w/butter,if desired.
