We're having breakfast for dinner tonight - little smokies, eggs and toast.  Such an easy dinner but oh, so good.

In Response to Re: WHAT'S FOR DINNER TONIGHT?:
mikki g...thanks for the reminder about S..O..S.  Have not made that in a long time.  I do recall that using the dried chipped beef resulted in a dinner that would wake me several times during the night to get a glass of water.  Then for every glass of water ya gotta get up to "get rid of the glass of water".  I will have to make this but will get some "real" beef to make it with.  And Bakery is right ya have to mix the peas in with the white sauce.  I also recall a dish my Grandma used to do that I loved so much, "Finnan Haddie", smoked haddock and she made it in milk that was then turned into a white sauce.  Again lots of salt but oh so good.  I don't think I have seen smoked haddock in a very long time.  I bet she got the "recipe" because of my Grandpa, he was from Scotland.

  nikki,
read the jar for directions to soak or rinse most of the salt off the dried beef because it is really better for the s.o.s.

Thanks for the tip.  Never thought about reading directions...Embarassed
I do not think I ever saw my Mom or Grandma rinse the beef off but a lot has changed in 50+ years!
I did look on line for Finnan Haddie... got the scare of my life on the price! I do not think it is on the menu any time soon.

GRANA here; We lived in Idaho over 20 years ago. There was a RedRobin restaurant staurant less than one mile from home. Our two teenage sons wanted to go there ere as often as possible, so did hubby & I , I had to sing the  old childhood tune
"when♫♫ the red red robin come bob-bob bobbin'♫♫•♪ along" for us to go there.Wink
They recentlyopened a location in the southend of town(we live in the North West end.I sang the song over&  over again and finally hubby suggested we o there forlunch today.
we went at 1100AM &  found a parking spot right near he door.An employee held both of thed duble doors open for us& we were promptly seated That's when good turned "bad" I"n 30 years the menu has changed a lot, prices up 40%&  hard to find a classic burger. I lost interest in a big juicy burger& craved a meatless burger.I searche the menu&  found several choices I picked the "GARDEN BURGER"
made w/rice& carrots served on a whole grain bun w/lettuce shreds, omato & red onion slices w/a hot pepper mayo
It was moist full  of flavor &  really yummy, but it took over 20 minutes to arrive at our table. The bottomless fFrench fries were cold &
no refills were offered to us.Yell
Hubby ordered   a dble burger w/classic toppings he got  a dry tasteless burger w/o  toppings; also cold fries. That took care o
of our NOON meal
DINNER:me: chicken broth, hot cocoa &  coffee cake
 he: a baloney sandwivch & a salad

While grocery shopping I picked up a cooked chicken, so we had part of that tonight and there is plenty left to make chicken salad for sandwiches this weekend.

Sorry my post was confusing the peas were also with the beef and white sauce. My mom showed me how to make it with the little packages of sliced beef in the dairy isle or by the prepackaged deli meats in some stores. It wasn't the dry beef.

Tonight will be Chinese take out,I'm tired so taking the night off.

Dinner dilemma......
I am inviting some people for dinner Sunday.
I am planning leg of lamb.
marinated with garlic, rosemary and lemon.
Salad with mixed greens, berries, pecans and goat cheese.
Now the question...
I have done this dinner before with potatoes and I have done it with couscous.
I have a recipe for a polenta with mushrooms and fontina cheese.  I think it is very good.
So my question is Potatoes...Couscous...or Polenta....
What do you think sounds best????
