GRANA here;
TUESDAY; NEW YEAR'S EVE:
Yesterday ater doing 2013's budget hubby announced that we had used up all our eating out$$ for the year & would have to eat at home til "next year"Frown
sINCE HE ad bought several bags of frozen Asian appetizers while doing this week's grocery hoppping,I really didn't mind. I make a great Asian chicken soup that we both prefer to any restaurant's offerings. I had  my haircut yesterday &  both were pleased/ how it came outl EZ wash & go style w/ just enough soft shiny curls
This morning hubby suggested that we return to the newer Mexican restaurant less than 1/2 mile from home w/ plenty of FREE PARKING, good service & moderately priced excellent Mexican style food options.
When we got there we were seated & menus broughtpromptly We both knew what we wanted (from our first visit;
he: A taco salad w/ ground beef in a crispy tortlla bowl
a diet cola w/ free refills
me: lunch special
#1
chilli rellenos topped w/ green sauce(tomatillos)

 a crispy taco, black beans and guacamole salad
hot tea
 we both started out w/ / a basket of complimentary   unsalted hot  corn tortilla chips &  a   bowl of moderately hot salsa plus   a small bottle of  additional salsa for refilling the  bowl
hot tea
We ordered Flan(traditional Mexican baked custard w/a burnt sugar glaze); big enough to share & they're ethe only  place in town that serves it. They were out of Flan , so we ordered churros instead ( fried dough w/ cinnamon, honey /chocolate sauce. planning to share that .We hoped it would not be too much more expensive than the flan.It arrived w/ a BIG
 bowl o of rich creamy of vanilla bean ice cream [my fave] 3 BIG churros on a bed of honey all drizzled w/chocolate sauce.The cinnamon was omitted as per my request;Neither of us missed the cinnamon since the churros were so pretty&  the honey and chocolate were enough of a flavor addition, Surprisingly  the churros & ice cream cost less than the flan flanSurprised; We will return for the great dessert debate (which dessert to order)but not till
next yearWink
DINNER:(not  really hungry after that yummy Mexican lunch)
me: chocolate chunk yogurt  w/ 1/2 banana sliced

We shared a small glass of sangria,
  for toasting in the new year:
A very nice, quiet , safe evening @ home Kiss

We had chicken pot pies and they were delicious.  I think this was the closest to my Mom's recipe, but it's not quite there.  Sometimes I think it's hard to duplicate a taste from our memory.

Had two chicken carcasses from when the kids were here over Christmas.  Had put them in the freezer.  Today was the perfect day to make homemade vegetable turkey soup.

We had a rather large lunch, so dinner tonight will be soft boiled eggs, toast and tea.  A pretty simple meal, but tasty and satisfying when you don't need to eat very much.

I was out picking up a few things   and trying to find a bp monitor that I can use alone, get gas in my car
because we're having a few freezing am's this week   and Tuesday
when I have to go for my second injection    it's supposed to be 24 degrees
at least my apt is 11:15    so if the traffic is crazy  i'll postpone a week

anyway, while we were out   we passed olive garden  and my car just turned right in
soup and salad was welcome     and very good

We will have a choice of leftovers - bean soup with ham, spaghetti and Italian sausage, or pork and sauerkraut.
