My niece brought this to a family picnic and everyone enjoyed it       Calico Beans : 1# of ground beef, 6 strips of bacon chopped,   1 large onion, chopped , 1/2 to 3/4 cup of brown sugar depending how sweet you want it.1/2 cup of ketchup, 1 Tabs.Prepared mustard,1 Tabs.vinegar,1 15oz can baked beans,1 15oz.can of kidney beans, 11 oz. can of butter beans. You could put other types of can beans if you like.Brown the ground beef, onions and bacon drain the grease off after cooking. In a large bowl mix together the ketchup, mustard, vinegar and brown sugar.Drain the beans and add them to this mixture, mixing well.To this add the ground beef mixture and mix well.Put in a baking dish and bake at325* for one hour. You could probably finish cooking in a crock pot.

Be still my heart .... er, ah ..... Be still my stomach.  That sounds good!!
And it reminds me of an old bean recipe I got many years ago and haven't seen since.
I gotta' look.

Sounds good.  It reminds me of the "crazy beans" my mom used to make.

Finally found that old recipe ....
Today it sure doesn't look good but oh, it was delicious.

PAT'S BAKED BEANS -
Drain the cans of beans
1 16 oz can lima beans
1 16 oz can kidney beans
1 16 oz can butter beans
1 26 oz can pork & beans
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup catsup
1 lb bacon fried and chopped
1 lb browned ground beef
Bake at 350* for one hour - then can be dumped into a crock pot.
(I see no reason the "1 hour baking" can't be done in a crock pot.

Gale and Nancy,  This brings back memories of the calico beans my Mom used to make.
It didn't have the ground beef but it had the bacon. I know that it also had pork and beans.
I'm printing both of your recipes and I'm going to look for my Mom's recipe. After my Mom
died I got her recipe box just packed full of recipes. I sure miss her!

If you haven't made these before, be sure and give them a try.  The combo of several kinds of beans is what makes them special.  I usually don't put the ground beef in, only bacon.  Makes a big batch - good for potlucks and big groups.
