STUFFED ONIONS Recipe

Ladies, I am so sorry that I did not post this sooner, I looked for a photo & then with the holidays, I forgot.

I used real large yellow cooking onions, but use the ones you want.
Peel & cut thin slice off the top. Bring a pot of water to a boil & carefully place onions root down in water & simmer 20 to 30 mins till almost tender. Remove, drain & let cool so you can handle them. Gently remove the centers leaving a 1/2" thick wall & bottom(I used some of the removed centers to make smaller stuffed onions).
Cut the root off (onions will be able to stand upright). I used stove top chicken stuffing but you can use homemade or another flavor. Mix the stuffing as directed but do not cover & set aside for the 5 min. Stuff the onions & put in a pan large enough to hold them all ( I used a 9 x 13 sprayed with Pam). Bake at 350 degrees about 20 mins. The leftovers were good cold.
P. S. I put a dab of oleo on top of the large onions about 1/2 way through so the stuffing would not be too crisp on top.

Thanks for the recipe Fran I will try this as soon as I get out to get more onions,that is the key word here MORE ONIONS,I use so many onions every week and this recipe will fit in quite well in this house.My sister in laws husband hated onions and she couldn't even cook with them.That would have been grounds for divorce for me LOL.Thanks again for a great recipe.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing, it does look very yummy! I like Nancy's idea of adding some meat to it.

Nancy, I used the stove top because I planned the onions for a side dish (in case we did not like them AND I did not waste the price of meat ), maybe you could do 1 onion with the meat to see if you like it that way.

Yikes -- I've forgotten this recipe!! And I bought a pound of sausage to try it. The sausage is safely frozen, the onions are in the fridge and the stiffing mix is in the cupboard. All is ready to go. And I'm ready to try it!!
