Spreadable Butter

My son is always complaining when he has to make toast and the butter is hard,I do buy spreadable butter when it is on sale and that is very seldom.I was looking through another cook book and came upon this recipe for spreadable butter that will be less expensive and will last awhile longer. 1# of butter softened and 1 1/4 cup of canola oil Beat the butter until soft and add the canola oil mixing well with a mixer.You could even use salt free butter if you are watching your salt intake.Store in refrigerator in a covered containeruntil ready to use.

I already have lots of stick buttter (salt free thanks to this site) in my freezer and canola oil in the cupboard so I'm ready to go.

You can add some honey or cinnamon to the butter for flavor as well. It is good & cheaper than buying it premade.

I just leave it out at room temp for a while bingo it is soft in about 15 mins.

I am looking for a "butter keeper" it is a holder for butter and it is inverted into a container that holds water. The water forms an airtight seal so the butter can be kept at room temperature.
I like the idea of making the soft butter, should do well for corn on the cob. I love making the flavored spreads have done that many times. Honey, cinnamon, cheese ...just limited by the imagination...

Nikki ,I think I know what you are talking about and I wouldn't mind having one myself.Maybe check with a hotel and restaurant supply if you have one in your area.I would keep my eyes open at Goodwill,all kinds of things show up there.

I recently saw a butter keeper (just like grandma had) in a catalog. Which one? Was it that King Arthur's?
It was a catlog of cooking supplies.

When my youngest son is home he always wants me to butter his toast, because I get the butter spread out to the edges. Spreadable butter is wonderful!

Darla, thanks for the info. Hate spending that kind of money for something like that. And the buy two get one how many butter bells does a person need? I will keep looking at Goodwill and Salvation Army and the other resale shops in my area. Just may take a pottery class this summer and make my own!
