well i tried again this morning------------since the recipe didn't say to stir---------i made the strawberry without stirring---------mistake
the chocolate i mixed w/ milk instead of water----------best result so far-------------but still somewhat spongy------------
do you think because i used mixes that require oil to be added may be the reason?

somebody else hurry up and try and see what happens------------because i really would like to keep this

Interesting.  I wonder if this would be a do-able cake for deployed military?
Posted by Renee C

I called my sister in law last night. This is what she told me to do for deployed military that do not have access to a microwave.Wash and dry pint size wide mouth jars.Make a cake mix up as directed on the box, filled the jar 1/2 full with cake batter and bake 350* for 30  min.In the mean time boil to sterilize the jar lids. When the cake comes out of the oven place the jar lids on the baked cake jars and close these will seal just like any other canned food.Send tubs of frosting separately along with the cakes in a jar.If unopened cakes will remain fresh up to 6 months. These can be packed and sent to the deployed.Hope this helps

OK NOW,I tried the 3-2-1 cake and it came out excellent.I mixed the 3 tablespoons of cake mix powder and 2 tablespoons of water stir until mixed and microwave for one minute.Let cool and top as desired.I used a small custard cup to bake it in .I mixed together Devils food cake and Angel food cake and dried egg white powder that comes with the Angel food cake mixes together.I'll correct the recipe to say mix cake mix powder with the water.Do not grease the custard cup.My cake came out spongy and moist.I think it comes out spongy due to being microwaved and the Angel food cake.Still a nice treat.

I pulled this up again if anyone would like to make this. It's a great thing to have around when you just have to have a little something sweet.Being done in the microwave it won't heat up your house in this lovely hot weather we are having.

My mother lives alone and this would be great because she doesn't eat
a big cake before it moles or gets hard. Thanks for the ideas.

  • 1 box Duncan Hines Angel Food Cake Mix
  • 1 box any flavor regular Cake Mix
  • 2 tablespoons water
  1. Mix the 2 cake mixes together in a gallon zip-lock bag.
  2. To make the cake: take 3 tablespoons cake mix; mix this with 2 tablespoons water; Mix together and mico-wave for 1 minute. Let this rest for 15 minutes and serve with toppings.
  3. Fruit, whipped cream or topping. Enjoy 3-2-1 voila!
  4. Red Velvet, Chocolate, Spice, Banana, Strawberry, Lemon etc use your imagination on the mixes.

5 Minute Chocolate Mug Cake

4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small dash of vanilla
1 large coffee mug that is Micro safe

Add the dry ingredients to the mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix
thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.
Add the chocolate chips if you're using them, the vanilla and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT!! ... It might serve two but I wouldn't chance it ... (:-))

This is a good one if you don't have any mixes on hand.

i just made it--------- i weighed everything out and mixed 1/2 of angel cake with 1/2 d.h. dark chocolate fudge and the other half with d.h. strawberry supreme i made the choc first in 1100 watt m.w.----took out immediately and ate while hot then i did the strawberry and let it sit in mw for a few minutes the strawberry was better----maybe for sitting both were a little spongy i've never used an angel cake mix before and didn't know the egg whites are separate from the mix-----are they all that way?

Nellie - There are angel food cake mixes on the market that have everything in all together, so the egg whites are not separate from the mix.  Thank you for trying this recipe out.  Clever idea to mix half of the angel cake mix with one type of cake mix and the other half with another type.  I'm sending this recipe on to my daughter since she enjoys making "mug cakes".

Thanks Nellie for trying this in different ways.I'm glad you brought this back up.This is a good recipe for hot weather,no need to heat up the house. My friend had a heart attack a few months ago and she has to limit her eggs to three a week.I forgot all about this before you brought it back up.I'm going to make her this with chocolate cake mix and give it to her(Chocolate is her favorite). The egg whites in the angel food cake mix won't hurt her at all.I'm so grateful to this site and all it's members for the conversations and ideas that we pass back and forth. Thanks again Nellie.
