Kelly M. - I searched online last night while watching TV and couldn't find a recipe for creamed cabbage with you 3 ingredients. However I did find one with those ingredients but it was for Missouri Cole Slaw. Not the same thing as creamed cabbage I dare say!

Kelly, Google it. I did and there are web sites to check out. I didn't find any with
just the 3 ingredients you wanted but it is worth a try. I checked in some of my
Dutch, German, Amish, and Mennonite cookbooks but did not have any luck!

I have a friend who is German decent and she made cabbage cooked with milk and butter. Delicious and sweet. I would just make a simple sauce with 2 TBS of butter melted, then add 2 TBS flour and slowly add milk. Stir until thickened. Add salt and pepper to taste and add to cooked cabbage. Let me know if you try it and it is what you are looking for.

I never heard of creamed cabbage. Does it make it sweet? I always thought cababge was kind of bitter.

Just thought of something. Philadelphia cream cheese has something new out, some kind of cream cheese cooking creme. Could you use that? Just a thought. Have never used it so I don't know how it is. If you try it let me know how it is.

Recipe for creamed cabbage!! Doesn't have the vinegar! 1 head cabbage, 1 Tbsp.
sugar, 2 Tbsp. flour, 1 cup cream or evaporated milk, salt and pepper to taste, and
2 or 3 slices of bacon. Shred cabbage and place in buttered casserole. Mix sugar,
flour, and milk thoroughly, add salt and pepper. Pour over cabbage, place slices
of bacon on top. Bake at 350 degrees until cabbage is tender. May also add
cheese.

This sounds good to me,I love cabbage.I just bought two heads today maybe I'll experiment and add just a little vinegar.Thanks for posting Carol.I make creamed spinach like my Grandma did,in a white sauce with garlic it's a great side dish if you like spinach.

Gale, I found the creamed cabbage in my Heritage Country Harvest Cookbook,
It is an Amish Cookbook from Northern Indiana. I love spinach and have it in a
lot of my salads but I have never had creamed spinach. I would love to have
the recipe if you are willing to share it!!

Hi Carol,I don't have this one written down because it's one from the family and I know I should sit down and put it in print.I just make a basic white sauce using milk,flour and butter.Make it as thick as you like.Again add garlic to the sauce as much as you like,salt and pepper to taste.One package of frozen chopped spinach, squeezed dry or fresh if you have it,add to white sauce and bring back to bubbly and hot,the heat from the sauce will cook the spinach,stir when cooking so it doesn't burn on the bottom.I'm sorry but I usually don't use recipes.Make about 2 cups of sauce per package of frozen spinach.If you have any questions please feel free to ask.I hope you like it.
