I have seen the tubes of pretzel dough near the biscuit tubes in the refrigerated case.  My guess is all you would have to do is just cut them rather than make the folded pretzel.
I saw the tubes at Aldi so I am guessing that the regular grocery stores would have them as well.  If not the freezer section has teh soft pretzels that I would think could be cut then just follow the baking instructions.
Good luck let me know if these helped you fill your Grandson's belly.

Nellie...I think he should make them under your supervision.  Give him a bit of kitchen time with you and he will get a snack out of it.
I am sure http://www.kingarthurflour.com has a recipe for them.

After I posted the info I looked and they have pretzel recipes but none for the bites.  I would think you could contact them and ask if the recipe could be changed to the bites and how to do it.  I don't know if it would be as simple as just cutting the ropes into bits then follow the same cooking procedure.
I hope your Aldi has them.

I have made hot pretzels from scratch. If they are just plain I would cut them before they go into the boiling water.Roll them into ropes and just follow the recipe.I used to put baking soda in the water. The recipe I used was Alton Browns from the food net work.I would do like Nikki said and have him assist you in the kitchen.I bet he would love doing this with his grandma.

only way he would learn is easy, like rolling and cutting from a roll   that he could do at home
I don't normally go to the store on weekends  but maybe tomorrow  if I get an early start
