Nancy, I often use dried cranberries rather than raisins.  I also happen to have some dried cherries that does sound good in a cookie.
And the Christmas Morning Cookies do sound wonderful.  Have you tried them yet?
I loved getting the Penzey's Spice catalog, for some reason they stopped.  I just might have to go on line and request a catalog.
That is the catalog that my favorite Peach Cake came from.

Penzeys keeps sending me catalogs -- I love 'em ...... and their site has many recipes.

I'm not fond or raisins so I almost always use dried cherries or blueberries, etc.  When I make the old fashioned oatmeal cookies for a friend - I use raisins.

I made red velvet cup cakes today, for a pot luck lunch tomorrow.  I made the cream cheese frosting, but will frost them before I leave for the lunch.

Barbara, have you tried the cooked icing for red velvet?  I like it better than the cream cheese.

My oven was busy yesterday.  Hubby said he wanted a yellow cake with thick icing.  I dug out my old Lord Baltimore recipe which is sort of a 2 egg chiffon type cake.  Icing is the brown sugar penuche.  When that came out I put in 3 loaves of pear bread.  I had put ground up pears in the freezer last fall when I had so many.  I use my zucchini bread recipe and add more nutmeg and a bit of mace.

Yesterday I made strawberry rhubarb bread and even though I made it I must admit that it tasted wonderful.  The aroma coming from the oven had all of us having a difficult time waiting for it to get done.  Today I'm freezing a bunch of strawberries and chopped rhubarb so we can have this delightful experience this next winter.

In my oven right now...
A baked bean dish for dinner.
I am trying to find a good recipe for lemon squares...if anyone has one let me know....
I am having guests this weekend for dinner.
Sunday my Brother in Law and our friend that helped me do my planting are going to come for dinner. Dual purpose, I have a bookcase that needs to be put together and I can not do it by myself.
My Sister in Law is going to come for a visit, first time she has been to the house, Saturday and I don't know if we will eat here or out but I want to have some sort of "goodies" to offer.

Thanks, I will copy this one as well.
I may have "bitten off more than I can chew" so to speak.
Don't know how I will be able to narrow down the recipes.

Tonight - after dinner - I'm baking myself some Cinnamon Pound Cake.   It's an ancient recipe but it's very, very good and easy.   Those great Krispie Fudge things I made yesterday are cut, wrapped and ready to go.

CINNAMON POUND CAKE
Grease two 8" loaf pans --- 350* --- 45 minutes
1 pkg yellow cake mix
3/4 cup oil
3/4 cup water
4 eggs
2 Tbls butter flavoring
Beat 8 minutes
Mix 2 tsp cinnamon (I use MUCH more) with 1/4 cup sugar.
Layer cinnamon mix with cake batter.  End/top with batter

Glaze warm cake with 2 Tbls milk, 1/2 tsp vanilla. 1 Tbls butter flavoring, 1 cup powdered sugar.

Barbara, here's the cooked icing I use for red velvet.

1 cup milk
5 T flour
Cook until thick,  Cool
Cream 1 cup sugar, 1 cup butter, add 1 t. vanilla.
When flour mixture is cool, beat it into the creamed mixture.  Keep beating until is it smooth and spreadable.
Cake needs to be in the refrigerator and the frosting will get firm.

Thanks from me too, Judy --- that sure sounds great.
And right now I could use some greatness - lol.  I suddenly remembered that the teens would be heading off to camp immediately after church tomorrow morning.   I decided it would be nice to take a load of cookies for them to use for snacking on the trip.
Those cherry oatmeal cookies sounded good so I went to the cupboard with wire shelves and tried to remove a canister of oatmeal ......
Somehow I ban ged it against a little box of spaghetti which was not closed securely ........... all the spaghetti flew out and all over the next shelves and the floor.
I cleaned and swept and cleaned the mess.
I made the cookie dough and tried to put things away -- the box of oatmeal into the cupboard.  Somehow I hit the lid of that stuff against a shelf and managed to throw the entire container into the lower shelves and on the floor.
*This site will not let type the word "ban ged" correctly - lol
