You lucky woman - having wild black raspberries.  My mother-in-law would always have some each year and I do miss being able to eat and enjoy them.  You made my mouth water while reading your post.  Hope you and your family enjoyed your crisp.

For some reason I wasn't able to post yesterday.  I made a crisp with some of my wild black raspberries.  I use oatmeal and whole wheat flour in the topping.  Of course we had it warm with vanilla ice cream.

Cheri, I also will have blackberries later.  i noticed they are starting to turn red so I'm thinking in a couple weeks some should be ready.

I love Crisps, Buckles, Cobblers and "Brown Betty's"  not sure if there really is a difference between the crisps and brown betty's.  I just might have to look into that.  I know the cobblers have a topping that is more like a loose biscuit so it looks like a cobbled pavement. I think a buckle is very similar to that as well.  Another thing to look up...
I don't care if they are peach, berry, apple they are all good.  I think I like them better than a fruit pie. Maybe it is the topping I like because if I have my choice of pie I like the ones with the streusel topping.

OK, I did just a little "research"
Buckle: Bottom is a cake layer, berries can be mixed into the batter or layered between.  The topping is a crumb topping.  The site where I found this info said Blueberry is the most common Buckle.

Cobbler: Baked fruit, topping is a biscuit dough.

Crumble: Baked fruit, topping is crumbled on top of the fruit.

Crisp: The same as a Crumble.

Grunt: Stewed fruit, with a biscuit dough rolled out and placed on top of the fruit.  Name apparently comes from the sound that people make while eating it.

Pan Dowdy or Pandowdy:  Baked fruit, dough rolled out and placed on top.

Slump: Same as a Grunt.  (maybe it got this name when the people slumped over after grunting while eating!)

I never knew that the Grunt or Slump started with a stewed fruit. I thought all of them started with a fresh fruit, possibly a canned fruit that had been "put up" after a harvest.

Nikki, I laughed at your slump and grunt definitions.  I knew they were done with stewed fruit.  In fact I made a blueberry grunt a long time ago.  Don't remember if we grunted while eating it though.  I usually do the crisp/crumble because of the oatmeal.  I use very little sugar in the fruit.  In the case of the black raspberries I knew I'd have to use some cornstarch or it would be too runny.  I guessed the perfect amount and mixed it with less than 1/4 cup sugar and just a bit of cinnamon.  It was perfect.

I've been trying new cookie recipes - some great, some not so good.  While searching I went to Paula Deen's site and saw Stick To Your Teeth Chocolate Cookies and just finished a batch.  I wish someone else would try it and see if they had better results.

i'm going to try bb ribs ala Robert Irvine

he dried them, put on a rub and rolled them tightly in  saran wrap  sealing it up and baked for 2 hrs at
225 degrees         then to serve put on bbq sauce  and broiled just to caramelize       they looked very good and got raves by the patrons in the r.i. show
since it's just 225 I think my a/c can handle that today
he said saran wrap is safe to around 400 degrees

I tried the VBB no bake s'mores bars.  Either I did something wrong or something, because even though they tasted good, it was really hard to cut them and eat them.  Ma;ybe it was because I tried melting the marshmallows in the MW instead of slowly on top of the stove.  Has anyone else tried making them?

Judy -- here's the recipe I found on Paula Deen's site ............

Stick To Your Teeth Chocolate Cookies
2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate
1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup graham cracker crumbs, finely ground
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 teaspoon vanilla
24 shelled walnut halves
Walnut halves
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Using a double boiler, melt the chocolate
in a medium size bowl. Add the milk and stir
until the mixture thickens, approximately 5 minutes.
Remove the bowl from heat and add the crumbs,
salt, nuts, and vanilla and stir until well combined.
Work quickly as the mixture will become stiff.
Using a spoon, drop the mixture into rounded
teaspoons onto a prepared greased cookie sheet.
Place half a walnut on top of each cookie. Place
cookies in oven and bake for 10 minutes.
Remove cookies from oven and quickly transfer
onto waxed paper to cool.
.....................................................
I did not think it was a very good cookie -- I will not use this recipe again.

I am baking cookies for a little group of young men who are coming to sing for us at church Tuesday night.
They get a bunch of cookies to take with them when they leave....more traveling.
I could easily pack up a nice batch from my freezer or simply bake some chocolate chippers this afternoon - half with pecans and half without.   I need to make that decision very soon ..........................................

My poor oven is "crying the blues", since I haven't doing much baking!  But, the kids are coming to the beach for a week so I'm getting my recipes lined up for some serious baking, especially cookies!!

Well, it wasn't in my oven, but I just made a batch of Alton Brown's Mint Chip ice cream. It is delicious. The recipe is on the Food Channel site. Nice on a hot day!

Thanks for the stick to teeth cookie recipe.  I've made 2 chocolate zucchini cakes in the last couple days.   One for us and one for work. I've been getting "gooey" on my home computer and there's only one at work (this one) that lets me into VBB
