This was done at least 60 years ago ...  Was there a cake mix then?   I can't remember, all I know is that yellow cake was made in two 8" or 9" pans. It was frosted with real lemon pud

I just love reading others childhood memories and how blessed most of us were and are.I hope everyone of us try to pass these on to our own children.Even if you don't have your own children but any young family member.They will remember you and how loved they are.

My Mom always had to make the pies for every get together from both sides of the
family and also for church. She made the best carrot cake, raisin cake, beer cake
and bread and cinnamon rolls. We always loved everything that she made.

My Mom hated to cook. She also had a horror of uncooked meat. I never knew that prok chops could be "soft"
and not like cardboard till I ate them elsewhere.

My grandmother, mom and I were just talking about a cake my grandmother used to make, called a 'Dump Cake.' I said I hadn't had one since before I went to college, and my grandmother doesn't remember making any since about that time eaither. Together, we all remembered enough that I'm going to make enough to take some over to them.

I love Dump Cakes. You can have so much fun playing with the different types of fruit fillings and cake flavors.
Very much like Gooey Butter Cakes the Dump cakes are fast and easy. Dump cakes are faster and a bit easier and no bowl to clean up that makes it a winner.

i make corn fritters. the recipe is in good housekeeping cook book been making them for years my mother made them.we put syrup on them.corn fritter batter 1 and a 1/3 cup sifted flour.1 1/2 teaspoon baking power 3/4 teaspoom salt 2/3 cup milk 1 well beaten egg.1/12 cups drained whole kernel corn .mix well fry 2 to 5 mts . also they sell flat noodle dumplings here in de .i like the other ones

Like Pat's mom my mom thought pork could kill you with a dreadful disease but we raised hogs so ate it all the time - WELL done.

And fish .... oh dear .... only pawpaw (grandfather) ever fished and when he brought in those tiny perch or catfish mom fried it. . But she never ate a bite, she just danced around the table screaming, "don't swallow a bone!! A bone will kill you!! You're choking to death!! Don't swallow a bone!! Those bones are too little to see!! Don't swallow a bone!! Be careful!!! Fish bones will kill you!! " I learned to never, ever eat fish - it's poison.

My father in law used to make snow cream with freshly fallen snow. It tasted like ice cream but it was not as creamy.

My Mom's macaroni salad, it is at least 50 years old, Mom was born and raised in Pennsyvania, there was a Farmers Market and the Amish had a stand where they sold various baked goods and salads, well one of them was a macaroni salad like none in any recipe book, Mom loved to cook and Dad loved to eat so she decided to create the recipe without asking the sellers at the market, (she was shy- I took after daddy haha) she said after about 5 attempts she had perfected it and to the best of my knowledge it is not in any cookbooks, I have searched through literally tons for one like Mom's recipe . It is awesome and my best friend of 29 years says it is so good you can eat it for breakfast , lunch or dinner ! Everyone who has ever had it says it is the best macaroni salad they ever had! If anyone is interested I will print it here, I am new to the new site and have to figure out how to post recipes etc. again haha! God Bless! Tons of love = TOL! gloria
