OH my...I have not made these in years.  I loved making them and adding pecans.  The pecans gave such a nice flavor and not over whelming to the butterscotch flavor.
Just might have to get a bag of butterscotch chips this week.
Thanks for a wonderful reminder of a great cookie.

 I like Oatmeal Scotchies too! They remind me of my grandma and she made them for me all the time. She said "that since we were Scottish then we should eat Scotchies" and then she'd laugh and hand them over to me. Have you tried making Chinese Noodle Candy? Some call them Haystacks. YUMMY! They are best with butterscotch chips.

Vicki, such memories! I remember making oatmeal scotchies way back when I was in grade school (I won't tell you how long ago that was). Not quite so long ago but still quite a while back, my sister found the recipe for the haystacks and used to make those.

i have just added two posts and I noticed two symbols next to the posts. The star with the "N" in it I figure means that it is a new post. But, what is the other one?

Jean yes those are quite good memories. My grandma never missed a chance to remind me that we came from Scotland. Along with all the Scotchies came a good dose of corned beef and cabbage & a lot of those root veggies common from Scotland. Some are ok but some (rutabaga) are horrible!  :)

Jean - When you hover your cursor over the symbol it says it is permalink.  At least I hope that is the symbol you were talking about.

I think the Haystacks were what we children were allowed to make because it didn't involve using the oven. Are they the cookies with chinese noodles, marshmallows, butterscotch chips and peanut butter?

My Grandfather loved Oatmeal Scotchies. I haven't made haystacks, but sounds like it could be fun to do with the kids.

Vicki, have you ever been talking with your friends about the foods that your mother used to cook? One day you liked everything that she cooked. The next day you didn't like anything that she cooked. My father came from Germany and one dish that my mother and my father's family made was cooked red cabbage,which was cooked to mush, yuck. Other dishes were good, but try to find German restaurants so that you can get them to eat.

Jean cooked red cabbage 'til mush? EEEWWWW yuck! My parents ate what I guess was a traditional way of eating a lot of their veggies with apple cider vinegar! No, I never have talked about my mother's cooking with anyone but you! Smile So, if we wanted to torture each other you'd get cabbage mush & I guess I'd get Brussel sprouts and asparagus hot with vinegar! Tongue Out

Verlee yes those are what I call Chinese Noodle Candy or Haystacks. Chinese noodles & butterscotch chips. I've never had it with the peanut butter and the marshmallows but it would be good! I've tried other flavored chips but butterscotch is the best I think.

So, Vicki, you don't like Brussel sprouts (mini cabbages to me) and asparagus. Guess what! Neither do I. A friend has told me about eating asparagus with mayonnaise. Nope, I don't carefor that, either. Now, give me liver and spinach, that's another story. Guess I'm strange that way. Oatmea scotchies and most other cookies and cakes - YUM!
