We did purchase a new electric grill.  We made tuna steaks on it tonight and they were delicious!!!!  Grill worked very very well.  Did not take long at all.

Nancy: You can purchase wood chips that will give a smoky flavor to your grilling. I think you can get them at a BBQ store, such as Barbecues Galore, or try Home Depot or Lowe's, or a hardware store.

Well, I did it ..... big step for me.
I've never made a fire or cooked anything on a grill and now I'm going to try.
In the pouring rain I had to go to into town so I went to WalMart. A woman I know said they had just two Webers left because of Memorial Day and didn't expect any until after that. So I took one of them - the smaller one - and got it to my truck in the pouring rain . lol
I wonder if it will ever stop raining so I can try to bbq something.

Good for you Marie. Enjoy it.

Somehow I ended up with two electric grills and never took either one out of the box lol. I finally gave one to my daughter. Now to get up enough gumption to take the other one out of the box and actually use it LOL.

I wish it would stop raining, too, so we can grill again. Even though we have an overhang on our patio, I'd rather not grill while it is raining.

I live in a small condo with a small deck on the back. The deck is far off the ground. I wonder if I would feel more comfortable grilling on the front driveway ..?? I'd be farther away from the house. I don't know.
Maybe I should start on the big driveway?

What a failure

To get them pre-cooked I put a whole rack of cut-apart spare ribs in my oven about 1 hour before I planned to grill them.
I covered a great little steak with garlic salt and pepper
I put the self-starting charcoal (Kingsford ? brand) over two sheets of crumpled newspaper in the new Webers. It flew up into big flames that scared me in this windy weather. I watched and watched and waited and then put the lid on with vents open. I checked in 20 minutes and it was dead. Icy cold.
I tried and tried to get that stuff started and had no luck. g-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r
The ribs (which I had planned on for tomorrow and later) were very, very over cooked - just ruined.
I broiled the steak in my oven. It was OK.
What a big disappointment.

Nancy, Oh my gosh!! Hubby is in bed already so I can't ask him what went wrong!!
I have always used the reg. charcoal and charcoal lighter fluid. I always stayed
right there when the flame was high and if it didn't go fast enough for me, I used
more lighter fluid!! I'm so sorry this happened to you!! You must not have had a
place to put the grill out of the wind!! Next time start with just hotdogs or some-
thing real easy until you're used to it! I feel really bad that the ribs were ruined
and the steak just ok. Please don't give up!! You will master this!

Nancy, Hubby got up to get a drink of water!! He said the fire was not getting enough oxygen with
just the vents open. He puts the cover off the grill a little bit so it gets more oxygen. He said you
burned off the fluid of the self-starting charcoal so you would have to use lighter fluid to get it started.
It has happed to him too, so don't worry about it. It takes time to get used to it.

There's no place 'out of the wind' to put this thing . The people on each side of me have electric grills - big beautiful grills but in 2 years I've never seen either of them used.

I wondered about using it in my garage with the door open -- I'm glad I didn't try that.

Hi, My husband has done the grilling in the garage but you must be sure that the grill is set out to where the fumes can get outdoors. Don't want any problems with smoke filling the garage and you breathing it.

My husband has the grill on the patio and only uses the garage when necessary and then, very carefully. On the patio, he has placed a PVC pipe into the lawn at the edge of the patio. When it is only raining gently, he puts a golf umbrella handle into the PVC pipe and that gives him coverage from the rain when the umbrella is opened up. It is not in close proximity to the flame and he loves to grill.

Hi Nancy, I also am so sorry that didn't work out for you.This happens some times.I use charcoal and lighter fluid also.Carols right start with hot dogs first.My husband started our charcoal grill the other day to make some hot dogs for lunch and he burned every one of them.He's been doing this for years.I think he was talking with the neighbor and not paying attention to his cooking. lol lol !

I am so proud of myself. For me this is a giant triumph.
Tomorrow afternoon we're supposed to be pounded by massive, very bad storms or I would
have the new batch of spare ribs out. I can't wait for those ribs.

Hi Nancy,I'm so glad this is working for you.When I cook my ribs, I season them and then place them on my broiling pan and I put water in the bottom section,cover the ribs with foil and bake in the oven 325* maybe for an hour and a half maybe longer until tender then I put them out on the grill to finish when almost done I put on the BBQ sauce and watch carefully so it doesn't burn.They always come out good.
