As soon as I get some vegetable oil, I'll be making a Halloween Monster Cake. First one I am going to be trying to really decorate so I hope it turns out well!

Don't wait...substitute either melted butter or a bit healthier use applesauce or pumpkin in place of the oil 1/2 Cup oil= 1/2 cup pureed fruit or vegetable.

Whenever I try a new recipe I read it twice before I begin. I line  everything up before I start. I always follower directions. I recheck the recipe before I put it in the oven.

Good idea, Maxine.  I always tell the people who take my bread making classes to read the recipe all the way through before they start, warning them that sometimes the ingredient is used in 2 different places.

I've never replaced pumpkin for oil but applesauce almost all the time.  Works best in chocolate cakes - comes out VERY moist

Well the first cake fell apart, ended up making cake pops out of that. The second one baked right, but the frosting didn't want to spread right. I figured it was because it was too cold so it didn't turn out well. I plan on doing another character for Thanksgiving, but I don't know if I want to do a turkey or something else. I thought a Pilgram, Indian or something would work for it.

Christmas is definately getting a Santa or Snowman. I may even do a manger brownie like what my mom did one year with a ghost graveyard.

I always read the recipe like 5 times before I start just to be sure I have it and then I make sure my recipe is right there with me as I am making things. I re-read them constantly as I have missed ingredients before when making stuff.
