heather.. iuse a royal icing as well. i visit martha stewarts site. love it. iuse to make mine using egg whites, now i use powdeer merigine. you can find in michaels.the recipe is on the side or inside. i make cookie stockings with names on them for place seatings at the table. and even ornaments.any stiffer frosting would work just as well. i put peppermint flavoring in it for sugar cookies....any flavor that would go well with flavor of the cookies....have fun...we always have cookie decorating parties, cookie swaps...it is so much fun. put on christmas music,,have fun relax, be clever.

I just made a pumkin, cranberry nut cake.started to make some frosting or a glaze for it. i remembered i picked ua qt. of the gingerbread eggnog from hoods.so good. i added some in the glaze for the cake instead of the milk. yummy. now i have to have my family and friends test it out. i may use this recipe in the contest. working on some doughs for cookies as well. i'am the only one home. it is amazing what you can do alone. went over and copied some old recipes for my son and fiance when they get married.having a great day...hope you all are as well.

Would you share your recipe with us?  I would love to try to make some frosting.

Hi Elsa,

Try adding a couple tablespoons of cream cheese to the recipe also.  You won't believe the extra flavor it gives and if you want it to be shiny add tablespoon of white corn syrup.  I make chocolate frosting this way also with Hershey's cocoa powder.  It spreads so easily and gets lots of OMG! :O)

For Christmas cookies I either use a royal frosting that hardens up or a plain icing made with water so it twill harden.

Wow! I'll say!! That sure is a LOT of frosting!!! Sounds delicious though!! Butter frosting is the best!! I don't buy canned frosting anymore at the store.....tastes terrible. I'd rather make my own from scratch! So much better flavor to it. And I agree....Julie.....you are truly amazing!!!
