We bake traditional Hungarian honey cakes (mezes kalacs) for the feast of St. Nicholas on Dec. 6. Cookies are cut with a cutter and  papers (safe for use on food) of Santa or St. Nicholas are put on with a dab of corn syrup or honey. I'm looking for a place to purchase these papers OTHER THAN http://www.stnicholascenter.org/pages/cookie-papers/. I know I have seen other styles of the papers -- moe like Santa than the bishop Nicholas.

Thanks.
Lory

Hi Lory,I'm Hungarian and I know what you are talking about. My father was born in Hungary. My father talked about honey cakes and I have seen pictures of them but never tasted one .I'll look around and see if I can find something for you.All the honey cakes I have seen were decorated with frosting very colorful and might have tiny mirrors on them.

I know Dec. 6 has passed. I'm looking for papers for next year. And, no, I just didn't want people to give me the same source I already have. That site has only the one style -- of St. Nicholas as a Roman Catholic bishop.

Yes, there are beautifully decorated cookies with frosting and mirrors, but the ones for St. Nicholas Day have the picture of him on them.

You might want to check with a bakery in your area, a "real" bakery not a bakery in a grocery store.
Ask if they can do them for you.  Some full bakeries have printers that will print food grade colors on edible papers so you can eat the decoration if you so desire.
If you really do not care if the paper is edible then I wold just suggest printing the image on parchment paper.  As long as the paper will not be eaten and the inks will not be eaten you could do them at home.
I think you can even get food grade papers in full line craft stores I am pretty sure the "gadget" called Cricut has a version that you can print out decorations for cakes and cookies.

I looked up the recipe - sounds great, would love to try it!  Have you tried looking at "Wilton" - they have baking supplies, classes, etc., good luck!

Thnaks, but the papers I'm looking are already cut out in the shape of the figure to go with the matching cookie cutter.

Hi Lory,I just sent them an email also lol!.Maybe if they don't have them this will give them the incentive to get them. Here is another link she has the Honey Cookies cut into regular Christmas cookie shapes and decorarted with white icing. They are quit simple but nice just the same check it out maybe you could do this with the cookie cutter that you have.Maybe you could do them with red, white and green for Christmas and the colors of the Hungarian flag.Take care and Good Luck!.I think I'm going to make some myself thanks for giving me that little push.
