Just made a Brown Derby cake

This is not from the "Brown Derby" restaurant. It is a chocalate cake that you can make from scratch or from "box". Once you have baked the 2 laers, allow it to completely cool. While it cools, wash and cut some strawberris. Select your best ripened bananas, and pull out your jar of maraschino cherries. Now, whip some cream sweetened with 1/4 c of powdered sugar. spread this on the bottom layer. Cut the banana(s) and place on top of the whip cream singly. Next place the cut strawberries where you can on the whip cream. Now, put the maraschino cherries on. Place the second layer on (don't worry about them being level, the fruit makes it uneven) and cover with a chocolate frosting of your choice. I'm sure everyone has had one of these: Chocolate covered Bananas; Chocolate covered Strawberries; Chocolate covered Cherries. This is the most delightful cake I've ever made. I have had nothing but complements and everyone went back for seconds!

I just bought a jar of maraschino cherries, & have everything else but the fresh strawberries, so will have to wait to make this; I bet a little vanilla ice cream on each slice would be wonderful. Thank you for posting & welcome to VBB.

You're right Maryann O ..... nuts would be a great asddition to this cake.
And, being no fan of icing, I've wondered about just a chocolate syrup being poured/drizzled over the cake.

I bet the cake would taste even better using the juice from the jar of cherries in place of the water called for in the cake.
Nuts would be a great addition. After all nuts are healthy, the fruit is healthy...wow we have ourselves another health food!
