I nice head of cabbage grated, some people just chop it ,my family always grated it and that is how I prefer it ,1 stick of butter, 2 yellow onions chopped, salt and black pepper to taste.12 oz. package of wide egg noodles cooked as directed on the package.Melt the butter, sauté onions until lightly browned, add the grated or chopped cabbage, the grated cabbage sautes better than the chopped, season with salt and pepper as desired, stir often.Cook until carmelized and tender, when done stir in the cooked wide egg noodles. The secret is to cook it long enough ,more butter or oil can be added if needed.I make this often for our street parties, everyone requests this and is also a family favorite.I hope you enjoy this.

We call it halusky.  My Mom made her own little dumplings - also gnocchi can be used in place of noodles.

Gale -- thank you for another incredible recipe.
Somewhere I have a great cabbage/hamburger recipe.  I haven't cooked it for years.  Wonder if I can find it.

lol Hi Nikki,I know that most ethnic foods are not low calorie or low fat,but needless to say they are delicious, just don't indulge too often and enjoy it when you do.I really try to indulge only once a month and over the winter holidays.

Thanks for the recipe Gale.  My Mom makes something similar to this once in a while when she wants a meatless dish.  She did lighten it up a bit by using margarine(sometimes olive oil) and no-yolk noodles.  Since her by-pass surgery, many years ago, she's reworked quite a few recipes.

Gale,

This sounds so yummy!  Now, I would be the only one to eat this because my husband does not like cabbage.  Do you know if you can freeze this?

Thanks for another great recipe!
