Wow, you are ahead of the crowd. I am barely finishing with summer guest and cooking. Will take a breather before thinking of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

I am anxious to start baking.  It would be so nice to have coupons for butter, Nestle chips, sugar & flour!  Our prices are SKY High here in Northern Wisconsin.

Sticker shock when I go to the store lately.  Is it because I'm too old and remember prices much lower or are they really going through the roof.
I'm glad my sons are grown - feeding teenagers would cost   -  more than I care to contemplate......

Frances, I think it is both.  I also remember when prices were more reasonable, but seems just lately everything has gone through the roof.

I don't make pies often, but for Thanksgiving and Christmas we must have pie.  Pumpkin for both holidays and some other kind.  Can't make just one pie.  I remember my mother could not make less than 5 at a time.

I always make a sweet bread for Christmas.  Usually it has nuts and fruit in it and is decorated with candied cherries.  I made 2, one to share with my neighbor.

Hmmmm, I really haven't thought about my holiday baking just yet. Been kinda focused on Halloween right now (it's one of my favorite holidays). I guess I will be making my usual this year. I usually make cookies (chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, peanut butter, different varieties of oatmeal. and sugar), fudge (dark chocolate, milk chocolate, white fudge, and peanut butter). I have this great recipe for a flourless peanut butter cookie. It's really great and super easy to make.

I usually bake something each day for the two weeks during Christmas and New Year.I am going to try and not be so lazy and make more cookies this year.Sometimes I just don't have the patience for cookies. It's just so much easier to throw it in a 9x13 and call it done! lol lol lol I'm just being honest.I love to make tortes, pies, cake, raised dough pastries and love love love to make homemade bread! No bread machine here !

I think there will be many additions now that I have reconnected with my two Hungarian cousins. They are both older than myself and spent a lot more time with my Grandma than I had the chance to.There Mom and her Mom were fantastic bakers also, tortes and strudels and cremes' which is a Neapolitan,it's flaky pastry with whipped cream and custard filling, stacked high! To die for, and it just might kill me,what a way to go!.Wink

Nancy, was the "sweet people" pun intended???

Gale, if you would like a short cut version of a puff pastry I have one from an old Betty Crocker Cookbook.  Very easy and the dough can be used for quite a few things but the recipe for the Napoleon is really very good. Let me know if you would like me to post it.
