An old standard that reminds me of fall is Indian corn, mini pumpkins and gourds.I know you were asking for a Halloween decoration but if you buy these things these will take you into Thanksgiving also.Any craft stores have all  kinds of inexpensive decorations and decorating ideas.A Jack O Lantern is also a great Halloween center piece. Most importantly have a great time!

I think a big bowl --- Walmart has inexpensive BIG plastic bowls with Halloween decorations --- full of cookies, some decorated with Halloween, would make a great centerpiece.

I have a large ceramic plate I put in the middle of my table. It has a candle in the middle and mini pumpkins, gourds, leaves, fake grapes, etc. laying around the edge. As Gale said, this takes me into Thanksgiving. Sometimes if I have fresh flowers, I remove the candle and put the flower vase in the middle.

This is a great idea. Pumpkins will last for weeks and when you don't need them any more you can cook them and use them for breads, pies, whatever. Dried ears of corn can be kept for use next year. Some of the gourds will dry and then they can be kept for use next year.

walmart also has those bowls in clear plastic , large as a trifle bowl, but no foot  i've had mine for a few yrs, but i saw some at the store last week
with clear bowls you can use them all year        changing what you put in them to suit the season
i also use them for chip bowls when having my family parties
say halloween     you could use foilage and small gourds or pumpkins         and even add a string of orange or black lights

If not using to eat on, living room table has Halloween decorated tree (about foot high w/ornaments), different decorations, black tablecloth that looks like a spider web.  The dining room table is harder because we use that & my boys don't keep anything where it should.  Black tablecloth with small decorations, a tall candleabra in the center - I switch...either a lit one (at night) or the one w/a plate that I balance fruit on.  Halloween placemats, orange plasticware, alternating black/orange cups/plates.  If I use large black plates for the meal, dessert is orange-all paper goods.  Night before & day of Halloween are the busiest in my house so supper is pizza (eating early) before/during trick or treaters.

Halloween night, I have several large bowls on the dining room table for easy access when trick or treaters come AND to keep an eye on the rest of my house not to indulge before the night's over - they can eat AFTER trick or treating's over

I have a clear glass Pumpkin canister that I fill with candy corn and that sits on my coffee table.I bought a string of silk fall leaves and I just coil that up into a circle and set the pumpkin in the center. I love the fall season. It's my favorite. The crispness in the air ,the smells, sharing a fire with family and friends it just doesn't get better than that.

My husband, the "Halloween Nut" usually puts up decorations.  Not sure what he has planned for this year but usually he puts up those fake spider webs on everything or hangs things from the doorway that usually blow on me.  I have a large plastic panel with a monster on it that he likes to put on the front door.  Then he answers to door with an ominous laugh that usually scares the little ones.  The bigger kids usually just look at him like he's crazy lol.

I just have some fake carved pumpkins that have lights in them (electric) and a ceramic ghost that flashes light on and off.  My husband has lots of things that he uses for decorations.  He made both a witch and a ghost whirly gig, and he has a house which has ghosts that fly around it in the wind.  He also made two scary gargoyles that sit on the corners of our deck above the entrance to the house.

We have a neighbor that goes over the top.  He decorates his whole house like a pirate ship.  All the windows are covered with black plastic and the main part of the ship is on the roof with masts, helms, and skeletons with pirate hats(ala "Pirates of the Caribbean"). People come from all over to view his decorations!

My granddaughter loves to paint the small pumpkins and make a centerpiece for dining room table.  I have some fake leaves that she uses.  Every year she gets more elaborate on how she paints the pumpkins and decorates, but however it's done is how we keep it.
