it's kind of a southern thing           in right now           but not my thing
if i'm having fried chicken i don't want honey, syrup, catsup or even gravy on it           just that nice greasy crispy battered skin

I don't know why it's a "thing" however it's HUGE down here in NC!  I'm a yankee and until we PCS'd here I have never heard of such a thing.

You don't know what you are missing if you have not tried chicken & waffles on the same plate!  It is a FAVORITE here in this home!  (And, we are Northeners!!)  The syrup just gives that chicken a very special taste.  Once you try it, it will also be one of your favorites!!

As I recall this was a "thing" with musicians after playing late into the night they were sort of eating breakfast and dinner in the same meal.
Pretty sure it began in Harlem New York.
(I will check and report back on my research)

I have not tried the two together but I was encouraged to try honey on fried chicken once and found it very good. So I guess the sweet from a syrup for waffles would be pretty much the same.

I do like a squeeze of lemon on fried chicken.  Then again I like a squeeze of lemon with some sugar on pancakes or waffles.  Now that's good!

The chicken and waffles goes back to the 17th century. ( Boy was I wrong about Harlem then!)
African- Americans would use the waffles to supplement the chicken they had to make the Sunday meal more "hearty".

Gale I've never heard of Popeyes. If you're in love with that stuff then I'll have to try it one day if we ever get one close around here.

Nikki wow! What you can learn now-a-days. Wish we would of had these computers when I was in school! Thanks for the info. Now I get it. Also now I think about it I have had sweet chicken. My favorite Chinese restaurant has delicious lemon chicken so honey could be very good. Guess what I have to do now? Make sweet chicken! I don't make fried chicken (hate the mess) but do oven chicken. When I used to make fried chicken about a 100 years ago Smile I would put foil over the whole rest of the stove & newspaper down all around the floor. Rip it all off and there you go. No mess.

We have one that was about 1/2 mile from where there was once a KFC and Popeyes ran them right out of business shortly after they moved in.This is the second one to be in this area so they are pretty new around here maybe 7 or 8 years now.

We lost a KFC also. Did they only close some stores or all? This town didn't need that! We don't have many places to eat or shop as it is! :)

OK I have given this some thought.People eat biscuits and honey with fried chicken why wouldn't chicken and waffles be good? I would taste this for sure.I've seen it on a few food network shows already and it looks good to me.Sweetness often enhances the flavor of meat usually chicken and pork.
