Flaky Buttery Biscuits

Ingredients:

1 stick of butter
2 cups all purpose flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons sugar
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup milk

Prep Time: 15 Minutes

Cook Time: 14 Minutes

Yield: 12 biscuits

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees.

Mix together flour,baking powder,sugar and salt
Cut in butter using a fork or pastry blender
Add milk and just stir to mix in all the milk and everything is wet do not over mix.
On a floured surface knead the dough 5 or 6 times folding over each time this is what forms the flaky layers
Pat the dough down on a floured surface until it's about 1/2" thickness cut with a biscuit cutter and place on an ungreased cookie sheet.Repeat the steps until all the dough is gone.
Place the biscuits in the refrigerator for 15 minutes this is important to do this.
Bake @ 450* for about 14 minutes,Store in an air tight container can be reheated in microwave for about 10 seconds.ENJOY

My niece sent me this recipe and this is the only time I've ever made a biscuit that wasn't hard enough to knock someone out with if I hit them in the head lol lol lol.These truly are the best I have ever made.

I've never made a successful biscuit in my life and the last time I even tried was probably 40 years ago with Bisquick. Oh, how I'd love to make a good batch.

Verlee I even messed up on this recipe.My baking powder was out of date by two months and I was timing something else when I put these in the oven and when the timer went off so did my oven so they sat in there a good 5 or more minutes until I noticed it.In spite of all this they still turned out better than any other recipe I have tried.I'm going shopping tomorrow and will get some new baking powder and will make these again tomorrow,I know they will be great.I'm going to get honey to put on them too!

Your story about the mishap with your biscuits is good. My mishaps don't turn out so well, just the ones where the bottom of the cookies, or biscuits, turn out a little too brown. Those are good!

Our son was the big biscuit eater in our house. Since he grew up and flew the nest I think I have made biscuits once or twice. I love them however they love my hips even more!!

me too! they are really good
and i was surprised when my oldest sister the ultimate biscuit baker told me that she and her husband liked the pillsbury frozen biscuits too
and because you can bake just what you want that's what they eat now

I am having a very small Thanksgiving it will be just the two of us. I have a Duck in the freezer that will be taken out in a few days. I think the biscuits would be a great addition.
My "big" Thanksgiving will be this weekend at my daughters. I just might make a batch of these to bring up.

Sara so glad you tried them.I think they are good and easy to make.I wanted to make some tonight but I'm just too tired I'll try again tomorrow.Just like with pie dough the less you handle them the better they are.

Well I baked another batch of biscuits tonight we topped them with the home made apple butter I made last night.All I can say is this recipe is the best I've ever made and maybe the best I've ever tasted.I have never been able to make a good biscuit until now.
