We got our first tomato the other day and my husband and son ate it and I didn't even get to try it. However, I do have my eye on one that should be ready soon. Can't wait!

I'm finally getting several at a picking. They were really slow coming on this year. I got so many last night I had to get a container in which to collect them. Usually it is one or two and I can carry those ok. I have several different varieties, one of which is an heirloom. They are huge and funny shape and color, but have wonderful flavor.

No tomatoes this year. Because of the extreme heat and drought the whole garden just withered up. I watered, but that only encouraged the grasshoppers. Even the grass that usually thrives in the garden is all brown.

That has to be discouraging. May you get some rain soon - not a gully-washer but a gentle soaking. It won't help what you set out earlier but maybe you can have a fall garden.

Yesterday I gave up on my potted tomato plant ~sigh~
At least there is a local place selling really great tomatoes in a little tent near here.
They also sell fresh peaches - too good to resist.

Since I was gone most of the month of July, my tomato plants took a beating. So I just trimmed them back and hope I'll get something before the end of the season! Nothing beats a sun-warmed tomato fresh from the vine!

Nancy,
I know how you feel. I thought that I would try this year and my potted tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant really are growing slowly. One pot of tomatoes gets flowers and then they fall off. I am very depressed. The only problem with buying tomatoes, even though they are, "in season" is the cost!!! $2.00 a pound and they are mostly water.

I'm still waiting

....but while I am waiting, I'll eat the delicious peaches that are now on the table at The Farmer's Market. I love this time of year! The Farmer's Market is doing a great business. The tables are full and they are so colorful!

i have my toms they have been ready for weeks but also have stink bugs that have been messing up my toms turning them black . very up setting

I had a plate of sliced tomatoes with low-fat cottage cheese for lunch today. Yummy!
We have had tomatoes since the 2nd week in July in the San Diego area. Home
grown tomatoes are the best!
