we used the small loaf pans that we use to bake gift breads in for my share

we also made meatloaves     and king ranch chicken casserole       in large batches      together to freeze and share

my son always called them leftovers, even though they were not baked until the time of consumption

This is a tough question for me because I love just about everything!  I'm a lover of homemade soups of many varitities.  My mother was so not a cook that I can't believe I enjoy it so much.  And then there is baking, I'd much rather be baking some new recipe than just about anything I can think of.  So, I guess I can't answer this question GranA!

In Response to Re: WHAT IS YOUR FAVE WINTER MEAL??????? : Sara - This is one of our favorite winter meals, too.  When we moved to Iowa and the kids were fed chili and cinnamon rolls for school lunch we thought it was a little odd.  Now, it is the only we have chili.  I really like the way the cinnamon in the rolls compliments the flavor of the chili.

Hmmm, chili and cinnamon rolls. I need to ponder that combination for a while.

My favorite comfort food in the winter is chili with my homemade corn bread, and a bit of honey drizzled over the top.

GRANA here;; The ( grocery store) meat dept had a few beef soup bones f or about $8each pkg today, that makes homemade beef soup more expensive than canned lower sodium/ healthier beef-vegetable soup; on sale; using coupons . While homemade tastes better, I chose to be lazy& count my pennies, conserving my time . The bones had marrow, but no meat on them.
I agree it's more difficult to find meaty soup bones, these days. 3 years ago.I I aked for such a   meaty soup bone and  the butcher clerk put a $4+ price tag on  one 5" bone / very little meat on it. It looked likethe old FREE dog bones I usedto get &  use for making soups..Alternately I could buy a large $18 pot roast (bone-in& trim it myself, but  but it seems a wiser/ cheaper  & easier  choice to just buy a quality canned soup for the 2 of us.CoolWinkToday, hubby bought2 cans of beefy soup for 25cents each after sale price& using coupons.I could have  saved even more but chose to reserve the higher value coupons for a day  there is no sale on cans of soup!!!!!!!!!!Money mouthIt's going to be a long cold winter; In case of a ower failure,I can just zip off the top  & heat  briefly on my  gas stove after lighting the burner w/ a match( the electonic starter won't work w/o electricity& neither wil the microwave ovenYell
.Frown

that is getting harder to find every day

ann,

i just don't care for canned soups like that

but i guess i didn't really pay full price for my shank slices i got 2 pkgs marked for $5. + for about 1 1/2 lbs 2 slices in each pkg     they were about 5" across and 1" thick and the bone was only about 1 1/2 "   so i got a lot of good meat

and a big surprise    i always cut the meat up before i put it in the pot        but i was having problems tues so i just put them in the pot whole       and after cooking for 5-6 hrs                it looked like i had cut them up         so i'll not have to do that chore again

i put up enough starters (4) in freezer to another 16 servings   and made one pot w/4 servings

i also have a gas stove
