I don't know the recipe, but I remember the big jar of eggnog that my father's ex-mother-in-law kept at Christmas and would use to make the drink for the adults. I always say "Who needs soap operas when you have real life?". We called her Grandma, but she was only my father's ex-mother-in-law. We always stayed friendly with the rest of the family. The only one that we didn't, my father's ex-wife. She'd been kicked out of the family. Oh, I also remember the gingerbread cookies that she'd give us at Christmas, and the awful front steps of the house, there was no railing.

My husband drinks it, but I never have liked it.  So he drinks the store bought versions.

Have never developed a taste for it - my Dad and Grandkids love it, so it's the store-bought version!

I like the store bought eggnog.  I have tried home made versions but often people put so much booze in it I find it difficult to drink.
I am also a bit "worried" about  the use of raw eggs.  I know Pasteurized eggs are available but I think I feel better just getting the store bought brands.
I would drink all of it if I had it in the house so I limit is as it is so calorie dense.
I do plan on getting some I have an idea for an Eggnog flavored pound-cake that I think would taste very good.

I'm not one for the alcohol part but just the rich creamy part.I don't need to worry about drinking to much because my son does a good job of that.I've bought 2 quarts so far and I'm lucky if I got to drink 4 ounces of it! I really don't mind all that much but a taste would be nice.I have to hide pickles too he'll eat them all.For Christmas I'm going to GFS and buy him a huge plastic drum of Kosher dills.I think it's a five gallon drum?

I love eggnog but I only buy it once or twice a year and then my husband drinks most of it.   Kemps makes a pretty good eggnog, or Deans.  Never put any alcohol in them though.

Gale, that's exactly what I gave my son one year for Christmas, a huge thing of pickles from GFS lol.  He even has pickle ornaments on his Christmas tree!

I have made the recipe in my Boys and Girls Cookbook, but I do prefer the store bought. But a quart just for me is a bit much.

I remember when we were kids, my mother would make us eggnog.  She just beat the eggs, added vanilla, sugar and milk.  We liked it and at that time nobody worried about raw eggs.  If one wanted to make eggnog now, I guess a cooked egg custard like one would use to make homemade vanilla ice cream could be the base of it.

PawPaw made egg nog at Christmas -- raw eggs, sugar and "home grown" cream  (everybody had cows) ..... uggggg.   I don't remember any child ever touching the nasty stuff.

Hubby got the Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog, made with real dairy
cream, rum, brandy, and blended whiskey. 1.75 size and 14.75 Alc.
It was from Costco and was $11.99. It is very good and smooth. He
gave me a juice glass  of it and I could really feel it. Didn't check
the alcohol content until after I had finished the glass. Yikes!!!
