We went shopping yesterday and stopped at Aldi's.My son bought me a nice big crock pot there.It's the  7 quart size.It was on sale for $19.99!!! What a great deal.I'm pretty new with the crock po

i did add the other half cup of rice and cooked it about an hour more        it did thicken up a lot but you can tell the difference in the grain when i looked at the directions i had           it said 1 c rice to 1 1/4  c liquid i can use it  if i adjust the amount of milk

Hi Nellie,I'm glad it thickened up for you.If you make it again get the regular long grain rice and you'll see a huge difference.This type of rice is 2-1 two cups water to one cup of rice.I thought one cup of rice to eight cups of milk? I was amazed at how thick this got.

Sunday, Oct. 14, is our church Fall Festival day for the bus kids.   I've already been helping to prepare some games.
And I have to take a crock pot full of spaghetti.
I'd love to hear any recipes and suggestions.

Here is a great recipe I found on line,it was just what I was looking for! Crock pot rice pudding 1 cup uncooked long grain white rice ( not converted or minute rice ) 1 cup sugar 8 cups milk 2 eggs 1/2 cup milk or half and half 2 teaspoons vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon salt nutmeg or cinnamon DIRECTIONS: Combine rice, sugar and 8 cups milk in slowcooker. Stir well and cook on HIGH for 4 hours. After this time, rice should be fully cooked. Then it's time to mix together the eggs, 1/2 cup milk or half and half, vanilla, and salt (use a fork or whisk to mix well). Pour into slow cooker and stir to mix into cooked rice/milk. Cover and cook for 20 more minutes (pudding will thicken during this time). Serve warm, sprinkled with cinnamon, or allow to cool. May store in the fridge for 3-4

Nancy, what about sloppy joes?  I sometimes make a dish for the youth group on Wednesday nights and they like sloppy joes.  I've also made baked ziti and/or chili.

Nancy,If this is for the kids I would make Beef and Macaroni.Kids really seem to like this and it's just a whole lot easier.Like Bakery 1 G suggested sloppy joes are always good too.Keep it simple Nancy and have fun.

when i make spaghetti for kids------------i always use the cut spaghetti------------no need to cut it up-------
much simpler to eat and serve------not as messy as the regular kind

i would  probably just make the spaghetti the night before  and put it in the fridge overnight and then put it in the crockpot on low so it will be warm to serve

Thank you and  Gale for the suggestions ...... But ...... I don't make any changes, even suggestions in this situation. 
I'm taking a crock pot full of spaghetti with hamburger and that's it. I will cook a big, regular pot of plain spaghetti, dump it into my largest crock pot and add a lot of cooked hamburger, then stir in the sauce.   I was planning on some commercial sauce but wondered if I could learn a home-made recipe.

I have a crockpot and use it all the time.  One thing I like to make in it is sausage for sausage sandwiches.  I put the sausage in the crockpot with some spaghetti sauce and some peppers and onions and cook on low. 

A few years ago, a bought a cookbook called, "Fix-it and Forget-it 5 ingredient favorites".  This one was for the crockpot by Phyllis Pellman Good and I have found many recipes in it that are easy to make and great tasting.

ok while i was at the store this morning i picked up a 2 lb bag of blue ribbon  extra long enriched rice-----------i did not see any rice that said converted  although i have heard of it
so next time i'll see what happens

One brand of converted rice around here is Uncle Ben's.It's a parboiled rice and has to do with the way they process it.It holds it's shape.Where as the regular rice get glutinous or starchy when cooked and that's why the rice pudding thickens along with the eggs in the pudding.Make sure your cooker is on high also.Good luck this time around..Mine thicken up as soon as I added the egg mixture to it so I turned it off and just let it sit in the crock for 20 minutes then transferred it into a bowl then into the fridge.I'm thinking about making chocolate  rice pudding the next time.

i also bought a pkg of sirloin yesterday and planning on trying that slow cooker stroganoff stew recipe
but not today            today is all about making my soup and putting up some starters      i also found some shank cuts , very meaty with a 1 in thick bone        almost 3 lbs       not on sale either

I found a recipe for making greek yogurt in the crock pot.All I need is a gallon of milk to start and a contain of yogurt with live active culture to start my yogurt.after that I can start it with some of my own.Those little cups of Greek style yogurt cost a dollar apiece.I can make a 1/2 gallon for the cost of a gallon of milk.I know home made will be great.I make my own ricotta and it's so rich and creamy store bought just doesn't compare.The winters are long and I have to keep myself busy so I'm always looking for new projects.

that    slow cooker stroganoff stew  recipe i sent you from pillsbury came out very good
and it was in their cooking for 2 recipes      3 of us ate yesterday  and i have enough for lunch today

i substituted 1 can campbell's cream of mushroom plus an extra cup of water and 1 tbs beef bouillion granules    for that 18 oz soup called for         i would also have added a good dash of worchester sauce, but i was out
