gale
i keep those knorr granular bouillon   in chicken, tomato and beef
they are the best bouillon i have ever found
i even like a cup of broth made with just either of them with a sandwich
i use them in all soups and pasta dishes easily
they have just become harder to find because most groceries have eliminated them from the soup/broth shelves and now they are only in the ethnic aisle by the mexican stuff
the labels are all in spanish first       all show caldo con sabor (chicken, tomato or beef) i buy the big bottles (35.3 oz.)

Thanks Nellie, many times I made my our soup stock but didn't have any in the freezer and I always have chicken and beef soup base that I use but was out of the chicken, but I pick up a container today when I went shopping. It is kept on the top shelf by the soups. You use a level teaspoon per cup of water. It doesn't need refrigeration. It's good in soup and in gravy to fortify it a little.I don't think I have ever seen what you are talking about but I will look the next time I go shopping.

Oh you're welcome Nancy.I wanted to make a cream of potato soup but was out of canned milk and didn't have any half and half so I added the cup of sour cream I like it that way but of course it is a matter of preference. It was just a throw together soup which I do some times when I have a little of this or a little of that..You can just put a little sour cream in a bowl of the soup to see if you like it.I make another soup which is Hungarian. It's a chicken rice soup with onions, carrots and celery. It's seasoned with salt, black pepper, parsley and paprika and then sour cream is mixed in at the end. This is a good soup too.I used to make a great big potful and my hubby would share it with the guys at work (all were Paramedics) they loved it and always asked for more.Hungarians love their sour cream and paprika,oh and cabbage too!

Here is a great recipe I found on line,it was just what I was looking for!

Crock pot rice pudding

1 cup uncooked long grain white rice ( not converted or minute rice )
1 cup sugar
8 cups milk
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk or half and half
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
nutmeg or cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:

Combine rice, sugar and 8 cups milk in slowcooker. Stir well and cook on HIGH for 4 hours.

After this time, rice should be fully cooked. Then it's time to mix together the eggs, 1/2 cup milk or half and half, vanilla, and salt (use a fork or whisk to mix well). Pour into slow cooker and stir to mix into cooked rice/milk.

Cover and cook for 20 more minutes (pudding will thicken during this time).

Serve warm, sprinkled with cinnamon, or allow to cool. May store in the fridge for 3-4

Nellie this is so rich and creamy and not overly sweet.I have tried recipe after recipe to find one that was like the Greek rice pudding I used to buy in the restaurants, this is the only one that is even better than that.I hope you like it.

I've already tried the baked potato soup ..... Yesterday I had it for breakfast, lunch and dinner......
it's all gone Frown
Thank goodness it's easy enough to make over and over.   I love that stuff.

I happily gobbled it but I still can't understand sour cream in soup.

Boy are you busy this morning. lol ! I'm thinking about getting a small slow cooker for desserts only. That way I'll use the bigger one for main dishes and sides.I put up another pot of rice pudding the last batch is all gone and I want to send some to a couple of my friends and my guys obviously liked it.I love stroganoff too,I use a recipe of my mom's and it is so good.

gale g

is the amount of rice in this recipe correct?

i made a half recipe and used 1/2 cup rice and 4 cups of milk

it has a good flavor but it's not a pudding

i seem to remember that when you cook rice its 1 part rice to 2 parts liquid
could that be my problem?

No that is the correct amount I cut and pasted that recipe.I just got through with mine and it's great.Did you cook it on high for the 4 hours time allowed ?and did you stir in the 1/2 cup milk with the egg, salt and vanilla ? Mine thickened as soon as I stired that in and I actually shut it off after adding the mixture to the rice this time and let it set for twenty minutes then transfered to a bowl then in the fridge it's a thick creamy pudding. This was the easiest recipe I thought the same thing a lot of milk and a little rice but it came out perfect both times.Did you use just plain old white rice? I hope you didn't use converted rice.I just don't know Nellie.

may be converted   it's in a cannister
but mine is like it needs more rice

i used 1 egg and (uh oh) 1/2 cup milk              maybe that's it but it seemed like it didn't have much rice in it before i added the rest          it's much thinner than an extra 1/4 c milk should have caused

i think i'll cook another 1/2 cup of rice and see what happens

I wish I had seen this sooner.  I was going to make rice pudding for tomorrow and I made the rice because the recipe that I like uses calls for cooked rice.  I just might save the rice I made and make this crock pot one. I have found very few recipes that produce a nice creamy rice pudding.

I have both kinds regular long grain rice and the converted I thought about which to use.The converted in my opinion holds it's shape very well I use that in recipes like chicken and rice soup or Arroz con Pollo.I use the regular long grain rice for serving things on top of it like hamberger gravy and for my Japanese recipes. It get sticky and I thought that would work better for the rice pudding.I'm so sorry I wish I would have passed that on to you.I'll fix the recipe so it states that.I copy and pasted that and it didn't specify.Again so sorry Nellie.I have never used any other type of rice other than plain old long grain white rice. My brother gave me a #5 bag of converted and like I say I like that for certain things

 Hi Gale:
I always got all of this ready the night before.
1. cook ground meat & drain off fat
2. cut up onions & green peppers
3. canned tomatoes
4,  rice
Next morning throw all ingredients into crock pot & stir a bit.  If I was going to be gone more than 10 hours I'd put setting on low, that's all!

i did add the other half cup of rice and cooked it about an hour more        it did thicken up a lot
but you can tell the difference in the grain

when i looked at the directions i had           it said 1 c rice to 1 1/4  c liquid
i can use it  if i adjust the amount of milk
