The only thing that comes up on a search is a corn dog casserole.  Maybe the recipe belonged to someone who is no longer on site?  I think a lot of recipes got lost in the changeover.

you could say that
the truth is that almost all of the swapped recipes are gone             and you have to enter
'community classics' in the search engine to get any of them       and then there is no organization           just a lot of scrolling and looking
i gave that up almost at the beginning        from eye strain and a high level of frustration

I love corn dogs and have made many variations simply by going to any search engine and typing in - make corn dogs.  For instance, here are the results from Google: https://www.google.com/search?q=make+corn+dogs&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Edit:  sorry for the double post...after the first one "it" told me I couldn't post any links or html, or whatever.  Now I see it posted it anyway - sorry, can you tell I'm brand new to this forum??

As I recall the one time I made corndogs I just used a box of Jiffy cornbread mix, used a little less milk than called for. I made sure the hotdogs were dry, dipped them into the batter then fried them in my deep frier.
I think if I were going to do them now I would pour some of the batter in my cast iron pan then lay the hot dogs in the batter then the rest of the batter over the top and bake.  A lot less use of grease and maybe a bit healthier.

   Corn Dogs  (MAKES 16)
( I used to make these when I was a kid, this is how I remember making them.I think I dusted the hot dogs with flour before coating it helps the batter to stay on the hot dog)

 INGREDIENTS

1 cupyellow cornmeal

1 cupall-purpose flour

  • 1/4 teaspoonsalt

  • 1/8 teaspoonblack pepper

  • 1/4 cupwhite sugar

  • 4 teaspoonsbaking powder

  • 1egg

  • 1 cupmilk

  • 1 quartvegetable oil for frying

  • 2 (16 ounce) packagesbeef frankfurters

  • 16 wooden skewers

  1. In a medium bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, pepper, sugar and baking powder. Stir in eggs and milk.
  2. Preheat oil in a deep saucepan over medium heat. Insert wooden skewers into frankfurters. Roll frankfurters in batter until well coated.
  3. Fry 2 or 3 corn dogs at a time until lightly browned, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper towels.

I like corn dogs, but I prefer to buy them out - say, at the Fair.  If I have a bunch, I will have to eat them all!
