Years ago(mid 70's) we had a neighbor that would borrow & never return items. One day at a Tupperware party the chat turned to "Bev" (she & family were at Cedar Point) & how she borrowed 3 to 4 times a month; turns out she borrowed items from all 10 of us at the party & instead of playing a game, we all tried to list what each of us had given her. She would borrow 3 or 4 eggs from 2 people, a loaf of bread (the nearest grocery store from the sub was about 15 miles away so we use to stock up) from 1, a can of green beans or peas from 1 or 2, boxed mac & cheese (use to be $ .19 a box) from 1, 2 cups of milk from 1 or 2 (it seems we all had the Tupperware 2 C measuring cup), a pack of hot dogs from 1, a box of pasta from another, a can of tuna from someone else. Later we found out that she borrowed from other people that was not in our group. She borrowed enough in a month from everyone to feed the family for a week. In the summer, people gave her tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, onions, lettuce, beets, carrots, radishes, grapes, strawberries, & green beans from their gardens & her house backed up to a cornfield & we found out her hubby would help himself to corn in the middle of the night. The sub was new & none of the houses had a basement, they had a 4 bedroom house with 1 kid & when they moved (it was a few yr. after we moved) the people next door to them (we keep in touch still) found out that they had 2 freezers in the one bedroom & she would freeze homemade soup, stew, produce (from the neighbors) & fish & deer meat (that her hubby caught). With all the $ saved they bought a big new house (in a different state) & all new furniture appliances etc. (the old freezers still had food in them & "Bev" gave the keys to the neighbor so they could get the food before the new people moved in. They sold the house as is with all the furniture.
By the way, we all cut down on the lending, saying we could only spare 1 egg, or a few slices of bread or did not answer the door till she stopped "borrowing". She never hosted a party, was never home to give out Halloween candy (she & hubby took their kid door to door), a few of the girls asked to borrow something, but she never had the item & she never bought things from parties (Tupperware, Bee Line, Home Interior etc.), but she would show up to eat the food served.
I had forgotten all about "Bev" till I read the post , I wonder if she is still "borrowing"
