First you have to go to the store to buy that little pressurized cardboard container, and then they last only so long before they're no good any more.  Don't get me wrong, I like the flaky layers, they're fun to peel off and eat, especially the ones with honey and butter flavor.  But, even the Bisquick type are as easy to make and bake.  Then you can add other ingredients to make different flavors, like the cheese ones.

Sounds impossible to me ..    .. don't all biscuits come in a little pressurized cardboard container in the refrigerator section of WalMart?

For Nancy G.... You make all kinds of cookies - perhaps if a biscuit were sweet you would consider it worth doing from scratch.

Roll out basic biscuit dough about 1/4 inch or slightly thinner. spread with soft butter.  Then spread with either Orange Marmalade or Cherry Preserves, or Apricot preserves.  Roll up jelly roll fashion and cut into about 2 inch lengths. place in grease muffin pans and bake 375 about 15 - 20 minutes.  May be glazed with a powdered sugar frosting after baking.  Best served warm but I will eat them any temperature.

Make a fresh pot of coffee and enjoy.

My, my! you would think biscuits were difficult!  My son's and I use this..... I use a Basic Buttermilk Biscuits recipe...      Sift together   2 Cups All Purpose Flour                              1 teaspoon Baking Powder                              1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda                               1/4 teaspoon Salt     Cut in (use pastry blender or two knives- scissor fashion)     1/2 Cup Crisco (or other solid shortening)                    until mixture has particles the size of small peas      Stir in    1 Cup Buttermilk      Mix lightly but thoroughly.  Turn out on floured board.  Knead lightly to bring all together in a ball.  Pat or roll to about 1/2 inch or so in thickness.  Cut and place on lightly greased baking sheet.'      Bake in preheated 425 oven   12 - 15 minutes.    makes about 20 2 inch biscuits Recipe may be halved or doubled easily. I also have a recipe which uses oil instead of solid shortening for those who are wary of consuming trans-fats. I'll post it later as well as ways to make basic dough extra yummy.

Thanks for all the recipes.  I used to make biscuits all the time when my kids were still at home.  Just doesn't seem worth the effort for just the two of us now and my husband does like those "canned" biscuits.    But maybe I will attempt one or more of these recipes around the holidays when there are more mouths to feed lol.

Cooking for just two takes some getting used to.  When our sons each moved out on their own, it took me a long time to quit cooking for two teenage boys.  Hubby and I were fridge-deep in leftovers for quite a while.  The biscuit recipe I posted can be easily cut in half.  That is the size batch I use for the two of us.  Leftover biscuits warm up o.k. in our toaster oven.

Retaj, this has been an interesting exchange.  Thanks for starting it.
I agree - breakfast ahead!  But not just breakfast .....
The cheddar /garlic ones are super with a supper.  Other savory herbs added to the dry ingredients make a good dinner go-with.

Thank you so much for the recipe!  I am going to make them this week and I will let you know how they get!  I love to bake and cook but I never made home-made biscuits!  But I will now!!

Now you can start those biscuits!

TIP:
Well add 1/2 or 1/4 lemon (depending on the amount of milk ) to 2% milk or thicker and let stand for 5-7 minutes and there is your buttermilk!
Next time you don't need to buy it.

Biscuits are just sooo easy.  When I make them for strawberry shortcake, I add a little sugar.
I have taught adult ed classes for years and have included a biscuit and muffin class.  it is amazing how many people have never made either from scratch.  When they see their tall flaky biscuits come out of the oven they are really happy

Judy and Susan,   Red Lobster bisquits are the best. They melt in your mouth.
I think Nikki posted an almost Red Lobster bisquit recipe.  I want to try that
one.  Judy I add sugar to my bisquits for strawberry shortcake. Yummy!!!

 Yes that method will give you a workable substitue for buttermilk but I have several recipes which use buttermilk and I thnk the real thing gives better results in terms of texture and moistness.  I use buttermilk in pancakes, waffles and muffins.  A couple of my cake recipes which were handed down from my mom also use buttermilk.  Therefore there is usually buttermilk in my fridge.
