you can even buy those bags at the dollar stores now-----------with or without the seasonings------------my d.i.l.  and her whole family cook everythimg in them when thay are not using the grill or deep fryer---------brisket, roast, ham etc------------they are not bad----------but personally i would rather clean up the pot than have to deal with the bag----and still have to clean up the pot-----------------in my oven ----------i mostly use only glass----------------easier to clean-----------especially now with dial's power soak----------just a few drops and hot water---------short soak ----------not much scrubbing------------

GRANA  here; Hi  GALE  G
I used  tomake pot roast in a simiar way
Hubby's sister made hers differently we loved it:
RHODA'S POT ROAST
INGREDIENTS
f brisket; all visible surface fat removed & discarded
6 oz OJ concentrate
12 oz water
 1 pkt onion soup mix
one or more carrots pp; washed  &  cut into 3-4" pieces(our fave ingredient, cooked this way)
DIRECTIONS

place meat in/on foil  lined  pan
Suround meat w/  washed raw carrots in 4" pieces ( one carrot pp or more  as desired)
mix juice, water  &  soup  mix together  & pour over meat & carrots
cover w/ more foil seal edges tighty  to prevent loss of liquids
Bake@ 325'-350' till tender ; about 30 min per  #
You may put A. P.potatoes, cut as desired into  pan in last hour, if desired; we prefer noodles and or or  a buckwheat  groat pilaf( kasha) to sop up the  sweet& salty juices(gravy),which may be thickened or  not as you prefer.... we like it just as is
I imagine  a  crockpot may be used but  I do not have one & neither did Rhoda

In Response to Re: BEEF POT ROAST : How do you make yours??? : This does sound good and interesting! What does the cranberry sauce taste like once it's cooked? Is it real sweet?I think I would like the noodles better too,but I would make spatzelle (Hungarians call it nokedli) I know I would like the horseradish. We have a restaurant here called George's Kitchen. It is owned by a Greek gentleman.I love his country fried steak,it doesn't have the typical white country gravy but a golden gravy that I'm totally addicted to.I couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was tasting but I loved it so I asked the waitress what is in this gravy? Her answer horseradish. It is so good I could just lick the plate! lol Seriously I would if no one was looking ! lol lol lol  Thanks for sharing this nice recipe,I will try it whenever I have two roasts,I love to try new things and so does my son, hubby is not too daring he just likes old fashion home cooking. I bought two roasts each was a good 3-4 # I guesstimate that I cut a good 1 - 1 1/2  # of fat off the roasts. It's hard to find good meat in the grocery stores.I love to go to our butcher but it is expensive. The good thing is he gets his meat from his dad's farm.He doesn't open on Sundays because he goes to the farm to help out.I have bought free range chickens from him in the past and we always buy our steaks from him.I made chicken paprikash from the chickens and my dear aunt Rose who never complimented anyone's cooking because she though she was the best cook and she was an awesome cook. She told me that was the best Paprikash she had ever eaten.I ran into her neighbor who is also Hungarian and she said "Rosie tells me you make the best Paprikash".  So now the pressure is on.I have an image to maintain.lol lol lol .Thanks again,I hope to try this soon.

GRANA  here;
 H Nikki p;
i lovethe blend of fruit    & savory flavors in a pot roast; see my  version here.I will have to try
your version, I'll start w/ the original 1/4cup ofhorseradish  and  add more each time.
I i make a sauerbraten w/ bay leaf red winevinegar( marinates 48 hrs before cooking. It'sthe  real thing(My German Father approved); but I'm always open to new recipe ideas; thanx for sharing!

In Response to Re: BEEF POT ROAST : How do you make yours??? : The best description I can use for this with the combination of cranberry sauce and the horseradish it has a flavor reminiscent of a Sauerbraten.  The original recipe called for a bit of cinnamon but the rest in the family did not like the cinnamon so I started to omit it. I don't think it makes a big difference one way or the other.

we make a similar brisket ---or very large pot roast here---------we call it all-night brisket-------------i guess it started because it was cooler to use the oven at night

we use a pkg of lipton onion soup mix-----------i bottle heinz chili sauce---------and 1 can coke-------and foil lined pan--------------we start it off at 300 deg for 1 hr and then turn the oven to 200 or as low as it goes and leave it til morning-------------------very tender and juicy
this recipe has been in my family for longer than i can remember and i'm 68
if you lived in the south----------this what your aunt always brought to family re-unions-----------church dinners-----------or to wakes

i have made a smaller version in a slow cooker (not crock pot) and it was good----------but not as good

I can understand this being done in the south.  Low oven temperature all night it will not heat up the house as much as if it were done during the day and at a higher temp.

OK -- Tongue out -- I've said before that I don't use my crock pots/slow cookers (?) for anything except carrying around hot food.  How on earth do I know if they are slow cookers or crock pots?  What's the difference?

if you don't have your literature that came with it------there are a lot of different things--and some people call them by the wrong name
a crockpot generally has a stoneware lining that can be removed from most-----------it only has 3 settings     high---low---warm

slow cookers generally have temp settings--------can be small roasters and

post pictures here and maybe we can help

if you check your mfg. at the website------you can see a description and sometimes even get instructions
or go to wal-mart on-line and put in crockpot  and slow cooker and see if what they offer helps you figure out which you have

Nellie....what a lot of info.  I have always used the terms interchangeably.
I thought Crock Pot was a brand name and slow cooker was a "generic" name.  Sort of like Band Aid and bandage.

I am now a bit smarter ..... thank you.

hmmmmm ... they are both in the cabinets out in the garage.  I'll look at them next time I'm out there (this afternoon - lol) .  I know the smaller one is just Lo - Med - Hi.  I think the giant one is the same  but I don't remember for sure.

Thanks Ann,another way to make pot roast thanks for sharing your info with me.I'm sure the OJ helps to tenderize the roast just as the black coffee does.Sounds great!
