Did  you use another recipe without the baking Powder?  I love chocolate so I have never made blond brownies.

That's odd, because I just checked out 7 different blonde brownie recipes on line and they all had baking powder.  It varied from 1/4 t to 2 t.  Several were from all recipes.com

Are you sure you didn't accidently use baking soda for powder?  That would make a sawdusty texture and yukky taste.

thanks for the suggestions..I tried again today using trusted cook Ina Garten's recipe which called for actual baking soda -1 tsp (instead of 2 tsp baking powder). I realize both are leavening agents...but I have only ever had recipes such as breads,  & cakes that called for bkg pwdr....I'm wondering if my bkg  pwdr may have been too old???
Anyway-I'm keeping Ina's recipe!!! It's great!

To see if baking powder is fresh, place 1 teaspoon in a cup or glass & add 1/3 cup of hot tap water.
For baking soda, place 1/4 teaspoon baking soda in cup or glass & add 2 teaspoons of vinegar.

If active bubbling occurs, it is fine to use, if not toss the baking powder but you  can use the bad baking soda like a cleanser. Always check the exp. dates when buying.

I guess everyone has had experiences where things just don't turn out they way we expect them to.  My sister once made a dessert where the jello didn't set and it was a disaster.

Patti, after making Ina's recipe for Outrageous Brownies I will never make another type of brownie again. Does she have a recipe for a blondie brownie?  If so would you care to share it?
I have not had a blondie brownie in a very long time but as I recall they do seem a bit drier than a regular chocolate brownie.  Then again I  purposely under bake my brownies so they do not get dry I guess I would do the same for a blondie brownie.
