We had a very productive apple tree when I was growing up on the farm in Iowa. It was my job to make the applesauce for canning. I also made an apple crisp about every other day. Haven't made one since. lol

Susan B --welcome to VBB.   You just reminded me of a wonderful but long forgotten treat.  When I was a kid we ate "fried apples' as a vegetable all winter long.  Apples just sliced into a skillet with lots of butter and sugar.  Now I'll have to do that again soon.

Yes fried apples, nothing goes better with pork chops, than fried apples. It's really just chunky warm apple sauce. This is good on ice cream too!

Gale - I  don't think we fried our apples that long.  The shape of each apple slice was intact and distinct.  Oh, each slice was soft and floppy but still 'clear'

Yum, yum  I'm glad it will soon be time for the local orchards to have lots of apples available.  There are so many ways to fix them if I can get to them before hubby chomps them all and we have to visit the orchard again.
