Appetizer recipe for New Year's Eve

For appetizers on New Years Eve,I'm putting together a meat and cheese tray,sopressada,fontinella cheese and some good crusty Italian bread.Olive oil with spices for dipping and roasted garlic.

For the roasted garlic preheat oven to 400* Bake for 1 hour

Cut the tops of the garlic bulb off,I'm making 6 whole bulbs,place on foil enough to close completely.Sprinkle the garlic with olive oil and close the foil,roast as directed.When done place the roasted garlic bulbs on a nice serving plate sprinkle with a little kosher salt, black pepper and a little more olive oil sprinkled on. Serve with toasted cocktail bread.I allow one bulb of garlic per guest.The cloves are squeezed out on the toasted bread.The garlic is not strong at all,very delicious and mellow in flavor.

Sounds delicious!! I love garlic; but have been a little less daring to try the roasted bulb alone on bread. But with your easy directions, I believe I will try it this time. Thanks for the suggestion! Garlic always goes well with just about any kind of cheese. Yummm!!

We have popcorn and all kinds of snack items. I put peanut buttr on crackers and dip
them in Almond bark.

AMERICAN CHEESE SANDWICHES

1/2 lb American cheese shredded. (I use Velvetta)
1/2 lb bacon, fried crisp and crumbled (I use more)
2 Tblsp finely chopped black olives
2 Tblsp finely chopped onion
2/3 cup MAYO - approximate measure. Just use what you need to moisten everything and hold it together
1 bag little dollar bread rolls. Slice in half
(Flavor improves if you mix everything a day early and spread when ready to bake)
Mix everything (except rolls!!) and spread on each roll half. Bake at 350* 8 to 10 minutes
until cheese is bubbly and starting to brown a bit.

Thanks Gale. I love roasted garlic and dipping bread in garlic flavored olive oil. We use a lot of garlic in cooking.

Cheryl, H.M. and everybody. I promise these plain sounding little sandwiches are soooooooo good and they are good looking. Do try them one time. When I make them I always double or triple the recipe so I can save some to use as a meal....just me!

Gale, Thank you for the roasted garlic recipe. I have never roasted garlic
but I love garlic and am going to try it!! Sounds really great!!

Nancy, Thank you for the American Cheese Sandwiches recipe!! This
would be a quick and easy one. The grandkids would like this one too!

Here is one that everyone always liked.A hot Nacho dip.I would fry up some ground meat and season with a taco seasoning pack and set aside.I used a 9" pie pan for this.Press a brick of cream cheese evenly on the bottom of the pie pan,follow this with a nacho cheese sauce or even a can of condensed cheddar cheese soup,spread evenly over the cream cheese,next spread the ground meat mixture over the cheddar cheese sauce,next an even layer of salsa,your choice of spiciness,next a layer of chopped onion,Finish off with shredded cheddar cheese.Bake in a 350* oven until hot and bubbly and the cheese is melted.Serve with corn chips.I never had leftovers from this it was always enjoyed,sometimes I would keep a back up dip in the fridge to be heated up later I also put out some sour cream, hot sauce for those who liked it spicy and extra chopped onion..Enjoy.

Dilly Dip and Veggies.this is an old one that I have made for the last 35 years.

1 Cup Mayo,I use mayo for this, miracle whip is not a good choice for this.
1 Cup sour cream
1 Tabs.dry minced onion,you could use fresh minced onion,or onion powder,not onion salt.
1 Tabs.dry parsley
1 Tabs.dried dill weed
1/2 teas.Accent or MSG ( This was in the original dip recipe ) this is optional but I will say it does taste better with it. Refridgerate for 6 hrs before serving.

This is good with chips or pretzels.Great served along side of a veggie tray,carrots, celery,cauliflower and broccoli.

Nellie - Dollar rolls are just small white bread rolls. I use them fairly often to make a small sandwich - like a little hanburger.
Just about any grocery store with its own bakery will have them. Even Walmart carries dollar rolls but I went to the 'fancy' grocery
in the neighboring town. They have the smallest and best tasting dollar rolls. They were sold in plastic bags of 24 rolls for $3.99

This is a great dip to use with vegetables:

Cucumber Dill Dip
1 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese; softened
1 c. mayonnaise
2 medium cucumbers; peeled, seeded, chopped
2 tbsp. green onion; sliced
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tsp. fresh dill leaves, snipped (or 1/2 tsp. dried dill)
1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce

Beat cream cheese until smooth. Stir in remaining ingredients until well mixed. Cover; chill.

thanks nancy--------one more? -------are they the soft ones or the fairyly crusty ones like italian-------------we have a lot of different rolls here in this mega-area where i live---i guess that's a good thing but can be confusing at times

Hi Nellie -- Lucky you!! The ones I buy are the soft rolls ...... they look and feel a lot like tiny, un-cut hamburger buns - the tinier the better. If I had a choice I would buy the fairly crusty. I LOVE crusty rolls so I'd sure try them here.
